wimp music

We all have our playlists, our workout playlists, pump up, car songs. But as I laid in my bed in my dorm one cold night, I heard my roommate playing several sad songs. A lot of songs we listen to now a days we don't even take the moment to appreciate the lyrics and thought the artists put into them and just enjoy the beat. So this goes out to the artists and music that hit you right in the heart.

1. "Jenny" by Nothing More

Personally, I love the rock band Nothing More. They create music based on personal experiences which makes the music so much more enjoyable and easy to connect to. The song "Jenny" was written for Jenna which is one of the band members sister who battles with bipolar depression.

‘Cause I don't feel like I'm getting through to you
Let me paint this clear, life is short, my dear
See your mother here, her last painful year
I wish you only knew
She stuck around for you

2. "Piece By Piece" by Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson was my first concert, my first role model, my childhood hero. Most celebrity's are lost to the drama and hunger for attention and fame, drugs, etc. But Clarkson just gave her love for music, piece by piece. This song is dedicated to her amazing husband and beautiful daughter. The song connects her husband and absent father, which personally hits home so I tear up especially.

But piece by piece, he collected me up
Off the ground, where you abandoned things and
Piece by piece he filled the holes that you burned in me
Six years old and you know
He never walks away
He never asks for money
He takes care of me
He loves me
Piece by piece, he restored my faith
That a man can be kind and the Father could, stay.

3. "Unfaithful" by Rihanna

For that one ex that was in your life.

And I know that he knows I'm unfaithful
And it kills him inside
To know that I am happy with some other guy
I can see him dying

I don't wanna do this anymore

I don't wanna be the reason why

Every time I walk out the door

I see him die a little more inside

4. "Breakdown" by Seether

If you're into alternative metal, this post-grunge band is for you. Personally my all time favorite band, Seether really knows make someone head bang one minute and sob the next. They are a band about sharing great music and created the Rise Above festival in the United States to raise money for suicide prevention.

So break me down if it makes you feel right
And hate me now if it keeps you alright
You can break me down if it takes all your might
'cause I'm so much more than meets the eye

5. "Sad" by Maroon Five

Okay, if you need to bawl your eyes out there are so many maroon five songs that can do the trick. Sunday morning, She will be loved, the list goes on...

I'm kicking the curb cause you never heard
The words that you needed so bad
And I'm kicking the dirt cause I never gave you
The things that you needed to have
I'm so sad, saaad

6. "Turning Tables" by Adele

Not only will the beauty of the song bring you to tears but the lyrics will too.

So I won't let you close enough to hurt me
No, I won't ask you, you to just desert me
I can't give you, what you think you gave me
It's time to say goodbye to turning tables
To turning tables

7. "Love Is A Losing Game" by Amy Winehouse

One I wished, I never played

Oh, what a mess we made

And now the final frame
Love is a losing game

Played out by the band
Love is a losing hand
More than I could stand
Love is a losing hand

8. "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri

Okay, let's all admit here we bawled so hard during the Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn like a baby.

I have died every day
Waiting for you
Darlin' don't be afraid
I have loved you for a
Thousand years
I'll love you for a
Thousand more

9. "My Happy Ending" by Avril Lavigne

Skater punk Avril Lavigne can have you feelin like a rockstar and also make you whip out the tissues. If you need a snappy love song or sad breakup song, shes your girl.

You were everything, everything that I wanted
We were meant to be, supposed to be but we lost it
All of the memories, so close to me, just fade away
All this time you were pretending,
So much for my happy ending

10. "The One That Got Away" by Katy Perry

In another life
I would be your girl
We'd keep all our promises
Be us against the world

In another life
I would make you stay
So I don't have to say
You were the one that got away
The one that got away

11. "Blurry" by Puddle Of Mudd

This is one of grunge band Puddle of Mudd's most popular songs. The lead singer Wes, wrote this song for his ex-wife when he became a father.

Can you take it all away?
Can you take it all away?
Well you shoved it in my face
This pain you gave to me
Can you take it all away?
Can you take it all away?
Well you shoved it in my face

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
