The college lifestyle is one that most people know of, but they don't know the full extent of how difficult it is on top of all of the fun we seem to have on the daily. The struggles of living alone and trying to balance homework, studying, classes, work, friends, and sleep (all while keeping that bank balance in the positives) are known all too well by all who have experienced them. This is a (somewhat) comprehensive list that I've compiled for everyone because I feel that these songs really capture the true essence of college life and the struggles associated with it.
1. "No Money" - Galantis
The title here says it all. The struggle for money in college is so real that it pains me to think about it. No matter how much you might work or how much you try to save, you will never be satisfied with your bank balance and the pain of swiping your card is too real.
2. "That's How You Know" - Nico & Vinz
This whole song is a satire about a bad day and all of the worst things that can happen to a person. The hook of the song is "that's how you know you f***** up" in a cheery, shoulder-shrugging tone, which is extremely accurate. College is where so many mistakes are made in your life that you have to just shrug it off and chuckle because life is just so laughably difficult sometimes ... or most of the time.
3. "Work" - Rihanna
This song made the list because it is actually perfect. Just like when you listen to this song, college is where all you do is work, but you don't actually understand what else is going on.
4. "Bad Day" - Daniel Powter
Yes, this song came back. I'm sorry to bring it back from the shadows of 2005, but it's so necessary to describe every single day of our lives. There are so many bad days during school, but there are few things it seems we can do to help ourselves. Just sing a sad song. He swears it works.
5. "Adventure of a Lifetime" - Coldplay
College is one of the biggest adventures of your life. This is the time when you truly establish your independence and you can go anywhere you choose with whomever you choose. It really is the adventure of a lifetime.
6. "Under Pressure" - Queen & David Bowie
You can't have college without pressure. Pressure from classmates, family, and the worst kind of pressure, that which you put on yourself. It's not fun. It makes things worse.
7. "Stronger" - Kanye West
Another throwback that you didn't know you needed. While this one is much less painful, it is equally as relevant. The workload in college and all of the other life challenges that we come across warrant the playback of this classic. It won't kill you, it will make you stronger.
8. "Never Sleep Alone" - Kaskade
Take this as you will, but MY reason for this being accurate is because you will never sleep alone in college. There will always be a roommate there every year because this is a time when we learn to live with people.
9. "Come Get Her" - Rae Sremmurd
Have you ever walked into a club on any given night in a college town? The owners of the bars and clubs should thank college girls because they get to bring in the men to watch the girls dance, but they don't need to pay the girls to dance like strippers because they do it for free. Don't get me wrong, I love getting down at the clubs, but it's something we're never really sure that we like to watch.
10. "Overtime" - Cash Cash
A favorite in clothing stores, this song is great for this list because we do a ton of work, but we still rally and have fun because we're basically superheroes. You go, Cash Cash.
11. "In Too Deep" - Sum 41
This song is a staple of the early 2000's. In Too Deep is probably one of the most, if not the most, accurate songs for describing college life. Whether it be work, school, friends, or sleep, we never get enough time to do anything, even if it seems that we have a ton of free time. We're all definitely in too deep and we can't do everything.
