11 Social Media Accounts You Should Be Following

In an attempt to catapult 2016 into being the best of the best, I've decided to share my insight with you all about what your daily exposure should encompass. While social media is indeed created for users to be social, it also holds a magnificent ability to show you wonders and images and info that would be otherwise unseen without following certain accounts. However, at times it's hard to make the distinction between useless users and accounts that are worth your time. So, I've compiled a short list of Instagrammers, Tweeters, and Facebook pages you'll be happy made it onto your feed.

Hopefully you already have your news sources and your political pages and your celebs that you like to follow; you won't find those on this list. Rather, I've mainly included accounts that are interesting and will brighten your timeline/newsfeed/whatever.

ON INSTAGRAM

1. @natgeo.photography

National Geographic's photography account features "the best pictures from National Geographic." It does this by collecting an array of photo submissions and giving us the best ones, making it my favorite Nat Geo account.

Other Instagram accounts by National Geographic include @natgeo, @natgeotravel, @natgeowild, @natgeoadventure, and @natgeochannel.

2. @sandiegozoo

The San Diego Zoo's Instagram captures highlights from the world's best zoo, including its adorable panda cub. If you'd rather see more elephants and tigers and rhinos, the zoo's sister facility, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, also offers a well-run IG account: @sdzsafaripark.

3. @paulnicklen

Paul Nicklen, a Canadian photographer and marine biologist, "has been documenting both the beauty and the plight of our planet’s polar regions and our world’s oceans for over twenty years." He offers images of gorgeous views and creatures from wherever his assignments take him.

4. @usinterior

The U.S. Department of the Interior's Instagram displays photos of "America's great outdoors," including lots of amazing photos of national parks. While the National Park Service has its own account, I believe the U.S. Interior's photos offer greater sights and scenes of the vast array of parks.

Many individual national parks have their own Instagrams that are worth checking out: @yellowstonenps, @glaciernps, @zionnps, @yosemitenps, etc.

5. @stianmklo

Photographer Stian Klo captures unbelievable Norwegian landscape photos and shares them with his followers. His everyday landscape shots are transformed into beautiful masterpieces by the Norwegian sky's aurora.

6. @sneakersthecorgi

Because a little corgi cuteness never fails to brighten any day!

ON TWITTER

7. @BuzzFeed

Never again will you miss the latest Buzzfeed quiz or this week's "Whine About It" segment! You will now be up to date on everything happening at all times!

8. @KyloR3n

"Emo Kylo Ren" is a Star Wars lover's dream. After The Force Awakens premiered, many parody Twitter accounts of new characters popped up. After a Tech Insider article was shared with me featuring Kylo Ren's parody, I checked it out. My Twitter feed hasn't been the same since.

Other Star Wars parody accounts worth taking a look at: @BadFatherHan and @VeryLonelyLuke.

9. @jwoodham

Jamie Woodham claims that he is a "Writer. Comedian. Human Bean." We'll see about that last part.

ON FACEBOOK

10. Dogspotting

Dogspotting is a private Facebook group, meaning you have to ask to be added or know someone who will add you to this group. Don't let that stop you from joining, though, because the results are very rewarding! Cute pups that have been randomly spotted by group members will start appearing on your timeline. The dogs can't already be known by the poster, and there is actually an extensive list of Dogspotting rules that you must adhere to when spotting a dog. Nevertheless, the posts are plentiful and delightful!

11. Tasty

These quick, efficient cooking videos have become all the rage on Facebook recently. As over-shared as they are, I thoroughly enjoy watching Tasty's recipes and gathering cooking inspiration along the way. The videos are calming to watch, and most of the recipes are actually very doable.

If you guys have any good social media accounts you think I should be following (please no Kardashians), please share them with me! Happy 2016!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
