11 Small Daily Changes You Should Make Instead of Resolutions

Everyone knows the saying "new year, new me," but how many people actually stick with the strict resolutions they set for themselves each year? The answer is next to none, but that's largely because of the caliber of these resolutions. Smaller habitual changes are easier to manage, and the following are some of the easiest to implement into anyone's life.

1. Drink more water

Water does wonders for your body. It regulates body temperature, can help keep you from getting sick, clears your skin, among other functions. Incorporating more water into your daily diet can give you more energy to

2. Keep a journal

It doesn't have to be extensive. Just write your thoughts and feelings before you go to bed each night so you can sleep without anything weighing especially heavy on your heart.

3. Take the naps you deserve

I personally struggle with this one, never allowing myself to get adequate sleep. Every now and then it's okay to slow down and rest your body and mind!

4. Eat more fruits and vegetables

It's easy, especially at college, to grab something quick that may not be the healthiest for you. In the new year, try to be conscious about your choices and grab a package of grapes or carrots instead of an order of fries.

5. Prepare for each day

Wake up a little early, even if only fifteen minutes, to make sure you're completely prepared for the day. Check your schedule, make sure you have your assignments done, and start your day off right. Not having to rush in the morning is a great way to kick off your day and will make each day flow a little smoother.

6. Be informed

Going along with being prepared each day, spend just five minutes each morning reading the current events in your town, country, and the world. Whether you like politics or despise them, it's never a terrible idea to understand both your surroundings and the state of the country and world.

7. Drink more tea

The saying is "a cup of tea a day keeps the doctor away," after all. Right? Tea is full of antioxidants and can be very calming. Drink it while you're writing your nightly journal entry, and you'll sleep even more peacefully.

8. Do something you enjoy

It's easy to get so wrapped up in everyday life that you never get a chance to do the things you love. Take some time each day to do what you love, whether it be writing, painting, cooking, running, or anything else. Don't lose touch with yourself just because life is hectic!

9. Leave a little earlier

This is self-explanatory and goes along with being prepared for the day. Not having to rush to class, work, or anywhere you need to go will be peaceful. You'll be able to enjoy your walk, drive, or ride there, and you'll have time to prepare when you get there instead of being late and rushing to be ready with your notes, laptop, etc.

10. Put your phone down

I mean this mostly when you're trying to sleep at night. I know I'm not the only one that struggles with stopping tweeting, tumbling, and candy crushing when it comes time to sleep. Force yourself to put your phone down at the end of the day so you can get the most rest possible. You'll accomplish more each day and find yourself happier.

11. Be spontaneous

Last but certainly not least is being spontaneous. The less scripted your life is, the more enjoyable you'll find it. Watch the movie, take the road trip, hike the trail.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
