Marin County, California is located right over the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco and is one of the most well-known counties in the U.S. Tourists flock from all over to explore everything from Marin's surf to its towering Redwood trees. However, the locals are the only ones who know all the hidden gems this county really has to offer, and there are certain things they just know to be true.

1. Mana Bowls are a regular food group

Whether you're stopping by after a long day at the beach or simply meeting your friends for lunch, odds are this place is as familiar to you as the back of your hand. (PSA: order the surf bowl)

2. When you're bored at night, the headlands are the go-to spot

I mean, how can anyone resists that view. The only issue is finding a parking spot...

3. You always complain about how far away Novato is

Even though it's not really that far, people.

4. You are very familiar with the line at Sol Food

But you still go there anyways because duh, its Sol Food.

5. Stinson Beach is one of your favorite places

Although the drive can be hard for those with a weak stomach.

6. You've gotten lost once or twice on the way to Bolinas

Now you pride yourself on being able to get there.

7. Taking the ferry to San Francisco is just a typical Saturday adventure

Maybe you'll hit up Pier 39, or the West Field mall. The possibilities are endless.

8. You've taken a photo at Hippie Tree

A huge oak tree with a rope swing overlooking the bay? How could you not take a picture? (or twenty).

9. You pride yourself on the Giants and the Warriors

Even if you're not a super fan, these winning sports teams are always a topic of conversation

10. The fog over Mount Tam has taken your breath away

Speechless.

11. You sometimes forget how lucky you are to live in one of the most beautiful counties in the U.S.

You don't know how cool it is until your college friends come to visit and fall in love.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead.
