To some, Indiana is just a flyover state. To those who have been born and raised there, it is the place we call home. But there are some things that every "Hoosier" knows to be true.
1. We always get asked "What is a Hoosier?"
By definition, it means someone from Indiana. But we Hoosiers take pride in the name, whether we cheer for the Indiana University Hoosiers or not.
2. Basketball.
Whether you are athletic or not, March Madness is your favorite time of the year. You either wear black and gold or cream and crimson, not both.3. The county fair is practically a national event.
People take off of work, kids get to show off their animals they had been working on all year, and it feels like a high school reunion.4. You've seen your fair share of corn fields.
Whether going the grocery store or on a road trip, you are destined to see a field full of that yellow gold.5. Your high school theme days included "drive your tractor to school" day.
And no, people did not laugh at you for driving your tractor to school. They laughed if you didn't.6. You are not surprised when it is 80 degrees one day and 40 degrees the next.
Don't like the weather? Give it a little while and it will change.
7. You leave early because you know you will get stopped by a train.
We are in fact called the crossroads of America.
8. You have watched either the Indy 500 or the Brickyard 400 at least once.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosts two of the biggest events of the year. And whether you like it or not, you have seen those events a time or two.
9. You really know what it means to be in Small Town, USA.
In these small towns, everybody knows everybody and a friend is a phone call away.
10. Your high school adds in at least a week for snow days.
Unless you have chains or a plow, you aren't going anywhere.
11. Good times or bad, you love Indiana and it will always be home.
There are times when you wish you were anywhere else, but when you do leave, you can't wait to get back home.
