Everyone loves music, but some of us take it to such an extreme that some people don’t quite understand. Growing up, I was always that person who brought my Walkman to school, which later turned into an iPod and now, today, I have a slightly sick obsession with Spotify. Music is everywhere and music is constantly changing -- but it always remains an important part in many peoples’ lives. If you’re one of those people who is constantly making playlists for your best friends, keeping up with new music, and listening to your favorite songs every opportunity you get, you might be a little bit addicted to music. Here are some ways to tell if you’re a true music buff.
1. You have a playlist for absolutely every occasion, and are constantly making new ones.
You have a playlist for your current favorite songs, your best and worst moods, your favorite throwbacks, etc. Pretty much, every occasion deserves a playlist in your book.
2. You’re a pro at getting concert tickets the second they go on sale, and you probably do this on multiple devices at a time (phone, laptop, desktop, tablet, etc.).
You’re constantly keeping up with new tours (especially ones at your favorite venues) that you’ve truly mastered the art of snatching floor seats for your favorite artist’s upcoming show at 10 a.m. EST, during the pre-sale.And you shamelessly searched the web for the Ellen pre-sale password for Justin Bieber’s "Purposetour. Whoops!
3. You’ve watched every single interview and performance video of your favorite artist or band on YouTube, and you’re really upset that you’ve run out of ones to watch.
You totally prefer YouTube to Netflix because that’s where you can watch performances, music videos, interviews, and so many other music-related things. You do this so much that it has actually become hard to find something to watch on a website with millions of videos.
4. Certain songs always bring you back to specific time periods.
Fall Out Boy and The All-American Rejects will always remind you of your angst-y teen years, and no, this strange, but oddly heartening euphoric feeling doesn’t ever go away.
5. Your friends constantly go to you for new music.
They know that you’re always keeping up with your Spotify Discover Weekly playlist and all the new releases, so you’re their go-to person when they need some new jams.
6. Or you go to them first, telling them to listen to a song, artist, or album, even if they aren’t interested.
You’re totally guilty of doing this all the time because you just have to tell all your friends when you discover a new artist.
7. You may not be musically talented, but you’ve thought of every other possible career that you could pursue that still involves music.
Music is something that you truly love and are passionate about, and you’d do pretty much anything to work in the industry somehow (even if you sound like Miranda Sings when you attempt to belt one out).
8. You’re down to listen to any type of music.
Even if the genre or artist or band doesn’t seem like something you’d typically be into, you’re always willing to give it a chance because it’s important to you to always be openminded.
9. You have your favorite lyrics stored in either a note on your phone or a folder on your computer.
Lyrics really speak to you, and you have a knack for collecting them (and you may or may not have some exciting tattoo plans that include some of them).
10. You get pretty emotional when one of your favorite artists releases new music.
OK, let’s be real -- you get really emotional, and probably shed a tear or two at the first listen of incredible new music.
11. You wouldn’t be able to live without it.
In all seriousness, music has helped you through some of your toughest hardships, but it has also been there for some of your greatest moments. Whatever the situation, music is a huge part of your life, and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
