11 Signs You Attended Lenape Valley Regional High School

Our legendary food fight, anyone?!

11 Signs You Attended Lenape Valley Regional High School

Lately, I've been very nostalgic about my high school years, and I'm sure I am not the only one. If you were a Patriot, are a few memories that all of us know to be true.

1. We HATED when they implemented that bathroom pass system instead of just signing our "homework" books.

It wasn't middle school anymore; we were high schoolers who were getting prepared for college! We did not need to be monitored when we went to the bathroom.

2. The bathrooms were for vaping.

Even though we didn't need to be monitored, a little more awareness would have been nice because everyone knows that all the kids would go and vape in the bathroom in between classes.

3. Nobody read the "Patriot Press" except for maybe, like, two people.

This hurts me on a deeper level because I wrote for our school newspaper and I was the Editor-in-Chief a few times. However, the paper at our school wasn't really that popular, which is upsetting because it was a fun experience. Ms. Ingram worked really hard on it and a lot of students would have learned a lot from it (just saying -- I'm not even biased or anything).

4. We all had that one teacher who would bore us to sleep every class.

Okay, I am totally not judging the way this teacher taught (they were a great teacher according to some students)! However, something about the way they gave lectures just made you want to fall asleep right at your desk. Sometimes I wished I had a recording of their voice to bore me to sleep at night. If you don't know who I'm referring to, did you really go to Lenape Valley??!

5. We had a very successful sit out.

Which then led to graduation outside! Thanks, Class of 2015!

6. We also had a very unsuccessful sit out.

When we all heard that tally-ball was suspended from all gym classes we were all very bummed. So some people decided it was a good idea to have a sit out. Turns out, only ten people showed up and everyone was told to go to class, end of story. RIP tally-ball.

7. Even though we might not have liked Lenape, they had some amazing events.

Faculty Follies was one of the highlights of my high school career. Mr. LVR was also an amazing event.

8. Getting a snow day at Lenape was like waiting for rain during a drought: useless and disappointing.

Every flurry-filled morning, we all laid in our beds, hoping for a snow day to be called. Nine times out of ten, it never was.

9. Everybody fought for a parking spot like it was the Hunger Games.

Most of the time, during lunch you would always hear people say: "so-and-so took this person's spot, so then they took my spot, so then I had to find another spot." It was always a chain. Everyone fought for a spot like it was their job (which I understand because it was really frustrating). Why can't you just stay in your designated parking spot?! It isn't that hard!!!!!

10. We were all very sad when the planetarium was taken down.

Even though everyone did everything they could to keep it from happening, our planetarium was taken down. It made everyone very sad because even though not every student went, it was still nice to have something so interesting as a part of our high school.

11. We had the BEST food fight.

I bet we can all still remember cleaning our clothes off after all that yogurt (and whatever else was thrown) off our clothes way too many periods after lunch was over. However, it was totally legendary!

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
