11 Signs You Are Not A Morning Person

Mornings. You either hate them or you love them. But, most people probably hate them, considering today's early to bed, early to rise lifestyle. In this case, people find themselves grudgingly dragging themselves out of bed to start the day. Sometimes, the process becomes so mundane that people begin to utterly loathe the morning. If you are reading this, you can probably relate to what is being said here. However, you may not consider yourself completely anti-morning. Still, there are probably a good number of people out there who would do away with mornings entirely. So, a question remains: how do you know you're not a morning person? Well, look no further, dear reader. Below is a list compiling all the signs of anti-morning routines. So, if you find yourself relating to a great number of these examples, you are not a morning person. So, scroll down and see if you can relate to any of these.

1. You cannot function without your coffee.

If you struggle to function in the morning, you will find yourself turning to coffee as a means for energy. Many people who are not morning people cannot live without their coffee, and they dare anyone to try and take it away from them. If you find yourself not being able to concentrate in the morning without coffee, then you are definitely not a morning person.

2. Ok, maybe you need two cups...

If one cup doesn't get you up, then two cups certainly will. Those who hate mornings twice as much need twice as much coffee to get them through. But, you got to do what you got to do. So make sure to get plenty of coffee in the morning to get you through.

3. You hate hearing "good morning."

You know you're not a morning person when you hate hearing the phrase "Good Morning". It's not that you are rude, but it's hard communicating with people when you just rolled out of bed. It takes time for you to become your fully functional self, and people need to respect that.

4. You can barely even form a sentence.

To go with the point above, it is hard to from a coherent sentence when you first wake up, and are groggy and feeling exhausted. You simply can't from proper words too early in the day.

5. You have to set several alarms.

If you have to set more than two alarms in the morning, then you are not a morning person. You simply don't want to get up that early, and it sucks to get woken up in the middle of your sleep by an obnoxious alarm, especially if you were in the middle of a good dream.

6. It always seems like you never get enough sleep.

Even if you go to sleep early, you might find yourself feeling like you didn't get enough sleep. Your eyes feel puffy, you feel weak, and you are just not ready to start the day. But, you know you have responsibilities, so you pick yourself up and force yourself through those rough early mornings.

7. You hate the sunlight first thing in the morning.

Nothing is worse than being woken up by the slow, bright light of the sun encroaching in your bedroom. It is even worse if it wakes you up before your alarm does. If you would rather sleep in perpetual darkness and curse the sunlight every morning, then you are not a morning person.

8. You often stay in bed long after you wake up.

You may not be a morning person if you lie awake in bed for several minutes after waking up. You may start looking at the clock, savoring every moment that you can spare to stay in bed. You are just not ready to start the day yet. You just need five more minutes...

9. You take your time getting ready.

If you are slow and sluggish in the morning, then you will be taking your time getting ready. Time will mean nothing to you as you stand in your shower barely awake. It may take a lot of coffee before you are up to speed with normal time.

10. Or you rush..

On the other hand, if you oversleep you will be forced to pick up the pace in order to make it to class or work. The whole cycle of oversleeping and rushing around is a stressful one, and it will take its toll on you. So, even if you are not a morning person, you still need to set up extra alarms in order to get to where you need to be.

11. You can't wait to get back to bed.

All in all, you can't wait to get back to your bed. You long for your warm covers and pillow, and you can't wait to return back to your peaceful slumber. Unfortunately, you will still need to get up the next day. But, you won't fret about tomorrow morning until it arrives. For now, all that matters is getting back to sleep.

If you find yourself nodding in agreement to any of these statements, then you are not a morning person. It is fine, because who actually likes mornings, anyway? Just kidding, but seriously, mornings really suck.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
