When fall rolls around, Halloween comes with it. The month of October is unofficially dedicated to decorating your lawn to scare the neighbors, buying obscene amounts of candy, and re-watching all your favorite scary movies. Halloween is one of the best times of the year, and here's a few reasons why:

1. The decorations.

You know it's October when you drive by and see plastic skeletons and tombstones in everyone's yards. There are streamers hanging from the trees and clings in the windows. Some people opt for scary, while others go for cute. It's fun to see how everyone decorates for the holidays, and it can put you in a festive Halloween mood.

2. The movies.

There are all the classic Halloween movies like Hocus Pocus, Nightmare Before Christmas, Halloweentown, Haunted Mansion, and The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. These make you remember Halloween the way you did as a kid and never fail to get you excited. There's also scary movies that come out in theaters right around Halloween if you're more into thrillers.

3. Pumpkins.

Pumpkin picking is a classic fall activity. You can carve them, paint them, or just let them sit on your porch. Either way, it's a sure sign that Halloween is coming.

4. Cider.

Apple cider is another great thing about the holidays. It's a seasonal beverage just screams "fall".

5. The weather change.

When the temperature drops, people start breaking out their fall clothes. Jackets and jeans come out from storage and the fall weather starts taking over.

6. Costumes.

Costumes start arriving in stores and popping up in online advertisements. People start talking about what they'll be dressing up as, making you remember how exciting it was as a little kid when you picked out the perfect costume.

7. Trick-or-treating.

Even if you're too old for trick-or-treating, watching little kids get excited over it is always cute. Plus, just because you aren't going door to door, doesn't mean you can't enjoy some candy.

8. Fall flavored food.

There's pumpkin spice everything, seemingly everywhere. Muffins, cookies, bread, pie, coffee, even cereal is pumpkin spice flavored. If that's something you like, you'll be in heaven the month of October.

9. Bonfires.

With cooler weather comes bonfire season. There's nothing like sitting around the fire, preferably roasting a marshmallow, with all your friends.

10. Haunted houses.

If you like to be scared, you probably try to go to at least one haunted house each time this year. The scarier, the better.

11. Caramel apples.

Another fall favorite, caramel apples, can really get you in the mood for fall. They come in all sorts of flavors, with extra caramel, chocolate, nuts, or anything else you can imagine.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
