So, you're new to college, or maybe not so new. It's three weeks into the semester and you're already starting to feel burnt out. By now you are well into your classes, assignments, and let's not forget clubs and other responsibilities outside of school. This can be enough to overwhelm even the toughest of students. Luckily, here at Wilson we have a whole staff of people dedicated to helping us get through life as we know it. They are the Counseling Center and this is why you should take advantage of them!
1.) Everyone loves free stuff!
The counselors here are here for you and are offered at no cost since you are a student!
2.) Do you even lift?
They have trained long and hard to specify in people our age and know what it means to be a student.
3.) Your secret is safe with me.
Can you keep a secret? They can. It's part of their job to be 100% confidential.
4.) Walking Talking.. Yellow Pages?
Not only are they good at keeping secrets, they are also good at pointing you in the right direction if you need to talk to other people. Have a conflict with what you really want to do after school? They can connect you with someone who can help!
5.) The Dr. is in the house!
There is a psychiatrist who specifically comes to our school for appointments with students. She is also free!
6.) Flexibility is key.
They are here for us Monday through Friday of every week and have plenty of time slots around classes that you can schedule for yourself.
7.) Just want to squeeze something?
They have awesome fidget items including Play-Doh, stress balls and kinetic sand.
8.) I know you get bored sometimes.
They plan activities that are both educational and fun and they often provide snacks or other little freebies!
9.) Everyone needs a safe space.
Their office is just that! It is a judgement free zone meant just for you! They even have little machines outside their doors to create a sound barrier.
10.) A match made in heaven.
When you start out, they try their best to match with a counselor that will best suit your personality. This is super important and often overlooked.
11.) You don't even have to leave!
They are here, on campus, specifically for you. Their job is right here on campus and they are always willing to talk! You don't even have to drive anywhere!
