11 Reasons To Study Abroad

Study abroad is an opportunity that most college students consider taking, but there is a small percentage of people who do so. There are many factors to explain why a college student wouldn't study abroad; however, there are definitely more reasons why study abroad could be the best decision someone makes during their college career. Traveling to a different country provides a plethora of new experiences and challenges that help many students grow as people. These are just a few of the reasons why this is true:

1. You are able to make new friends with interesting accents.

Also, it is extremely interesting to talk to people from various countries and exchange differences among cultures.

2. You can travel to different countries on cheap airlines.

A 15 € from RyanAir is not as sketchy as it may seem, and traveling cheap is a perk for many college students.

3. You get to visit the landmarks and monuments that you used to read about in history textbooks.

It is very surreal to visit historical places that you typically only fantasize about when learning about them in history class.

4. You can taste tons of delicious foods and drinks.

If you are traveling to Europe, get ready to eat an embarrassing amount of Nutella and crepes. Also, take advantage of tasting different drinks in the countries you visit.

5. You are able to learn in new environments and cultures.

One of the best things about study abroad is learning from a different country's perspective. You can broaden your knowledge with the new teachings.

6. You get to experience the joy that is Christmas markets.

Study abroad during the fall semester is worth it for the Christmas markets. The festive scene is amazing, and the food, treats, and mulled wine are even better.

7. You actually gain useful skills that you can use in the future.

You definitely hear that study abroad is a great experience to have on your resume, because you are presented with the opportunity to broaden your horizons and become more adaptable in new environments.

8. You gain independence and become an adult.

Living in a foreign country by yourself is the perfect chance to become more independent and be responsible for yourself.

9. You have the rare opportunity to be spontaneous and adventurous.

Say yes to new adventures, because you never know what you will learn. Study abroad provides a once-in-a-lifetime chance for new experiences

10. You can attempt to use the Spanish that you were taught in high school.

...or any other language. Knowing simple phrases in foreign languages is obviously extremely helpful while traveling, and the some locals love when visitors attempt to use their respective languages.

11. Finally, you learn to appreciate your family, friends, and culture of your home country.

When you return home, you will realize how valuable your family and friends are. Also, you will definitely be extremely grateful for the comforts that you probably took for granted in your home country.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
