On my SATs, one of the main essay topics was, "Who is someone you admire, and why?" My answer: Ellen Degeneres. Ask anyone of my friends, I worship the ground she walks on, and let me tell you, I absolutely aced that portion on my SAT.

I began watching "The Ellen Show" when I was just 5-years-old. I remember always being so excited to tune into her show and see how she would make me laugh today. As I got older I became more aware of Ellen and who she was and what she does for people, and it ultimately made me really admire who she was. I have 11 reasons why I love Ellen and why you should, too.

1. She is absolutely hilarious.

What's so impressive about Ellen's comedic persona, is she never curses on her show. Sometimes her executive producers do, but she keeps it clean, but always manages to get laughs from her audience. Her cynical, yet spirited personality is what wins over an audience in my opinion.

2. She loves to scare people.

I know not everyone likes being scared, but seeing someone do it to someone else is pretty hilarious. Especially when she scares her executive producer Andy. Here's another one because it's just too funny.

3. She loves to get people together.

While this is her just having a good laugh, and it's all in good fun, she LOVES messing with the people she brings on the show, and either tries to encourage them to date someone, or admit who they're dating.

4. She's the face of Covergirl!

I mean come on -- that's just really cool.

5. She isn't an activist.

Ellen's words have always been powerful, but this speaks volumes about the kind of person she is. She has done so much for the LGBTQIA (also known as MOGII) community, and contributes to helping animals find good homes that may have been homeless, but also abused as well.

6. She changes people's lives.

Ellen works along Shutterfly, and almost every single episode of her show, she helps someone out, no matter what the cost is. That ranges from a television, a family vacation, a car, a house or renovating an entire school; she makes sure it happens for them because she genuinely cares, and that is beautiful.

7. She is just unapologetically herself.

In an interview, Ellen stated that she refused to wear a dress to be on the cover of W magazine. She said: "When I (first) thought about it, I thought, OK, I'll be open to this. I'll play dress up. Then I thought, I just don't feel comfortable in it. I don't want to apologize for who I am. This statement shows how much of a role model she is because she stuck to her guns about what she feels comfortable doing and what she's not. With her show, she tries to make that message very clear, to many young people who deal with same issues.

8. She's quite the dancer.

One of my favorite segments of the show is when she encourages everyone to get up and dance with her. It's always really adorable and it makes the show that much better.

9. She always has the best guests come on her show.

Ellen brings on all sorts of celebrities, from Justin Timberlake, Steve Carell, to Jennifer Lopez, but Ellen always brings random people she finds from the internet, whether that's because they did something kind, they were expressing their talent and she wanted to let become more known, or she wants to help them out.

10. She is loved by so many.

Because of the simply amazing person she is, so many have developed so much love and respect for her in the entertainment community. I've seen countless award shows, and interviews, and when they mention Ellen, they always talk about how truly wonderful she is.

11. At the end of each show of her's, she always says the same thing.

These words are extremely important to her, and since watching her show, they've grown very person to me as well. Ellen reminds us all that we need to learn how to love another and accept one another. She teaches us to be tolerant, but most of all, she teaches kindness, and that's something that is truly remarkable.

Ellen, you really are the queen.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
