11 Reasons Why Living At Denison During The Summer Is The Best Decision Ever

I can't quite argue that my recent three weeks at Denison were the best weeks of my summer because well, summer isn't nearly over yet, but I can say with certainty that my summer time on the hill flew above expectations. Before I arrived on campus I had been told by a few older friends that some of their favorite times at Dension were spent over the summer. I was skeptical. I accepted a job on the June-O staff and was stoked but unsure as to how I could love a school built on people and relationships when more than half the school's population wouldn't be there. Little did I know, however, that the vibrant nature of Denison and its community is not at all dead during the summer months. Summer is the time when Denisonians get to take advantage of their favorite parts of the university. Summer is Denison's hidden treasure, and I (as a recent first time Denidoo summer camper) am here to reveal to you some of the hidden perks.

1. Everyone here wants to be here. Campus is full of people who love Denison. Why else would they stay?!

2. People are doing some pretty awesome things.

Students are getting to work with faculty on a self-designed research project.

3. The campus is beautiful.

The days are sunny and walking around campus at any hour of the day is more enjoyable than ever.

4. Different events are going on at different times.

People are coming and going for various jobs, reunions, camps, and performances. The community is ever-changing and always exciting.

5. You get to meet new Denisonians!

You may have some old friends that you come with for the summer, but you will inevitably leave with just as many, if not more, new ones.

6. Beaver beach sunsets.

7. Denison really feels like home.

8. Faculty and staff are even more able to interact with you.

9. More time to take advantage of the surrounding area.

10. The community. Enough said.

11. You have free time away from class to find out for yourself what it is that you truly love about Denison.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
