Here it comes. The day that causes all single people everywhere to cringe at the sight of red and pink. A holiday that makes even the most delicious of chocolates turn bitter in the mouths of those watching the happy couples swoon over roses and beautiful cards.

I'm sure you've guessed it by now that what I am referring to is of course Valentine's Day. As one of those teenagers who rolled her eyes at the thought of the holiday of love when I myself had no one, I feel qualified to tell you what I have actually learned about it over the years. In fact, I have 11 great reasons as to why whether you are single or not, February 14th should be one of your most anticipated dates.

10. Stuffed animals

Even if you have no one to cuddle, the stores have shelves PACKED full of stuffed animals just waiting to be loved on.

9. Chocolate

Chocolate fixes everything, and honestly, you can't go anywhere on this holiday without seeing some kind of delicacy to stuff into your mouth, maybe even something that isn't chocolate.

8. Flowers

Flowers are one of the main centerpieces of this holiday, and regardless of whether anyone gets you some, all of the roses create a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy. Remember to "smell the roses!"

7. Cards

Cheesy Valentine's Day cards are one of the greatest inventions of all time! They are great at provoking smiles rain or shine.

6. Words of affirmation

Being able to take time and reflect on all of the people that you love, and telling them so, is the best part of this day. Sometimes the rush of life deprives us of realizing just how much certain individuals benefit our well-being and so Valentine's primary job is to give us a chance to remember such things.

5. Gifts

Giving a gift to someone out of the goodness of your heart is a blessing that can be cherished always.

4. Quality time

Quality time with loved ones improves our outlook on life and helps to renew relationships; so enjoy that date or special phone call with a beloved family member/friend. It's improving your health!

3. Celebration of love

Valentine's Day doesn't have to just be about snoogling with your significant other. It is about celebrating love with all of the important people you care about, including brothers, sisters, cousins etc!

2. True love, obviously

True love never dies, and that calls for a day of celebration.

1. You're never alone, even if you think you are.

No matter how alone you may feel in the world, there is always someone that loves you. Reach out to them on this day, even if it only this day, and remember that you are loved not only by that person, but by God as well. He is the ultimate creator of love, and to spend a day celebrating such a thing, must certainly be one of the best things you can do.

It has been almost two years since my Papa has passed away. I will never forget how the last thing that he gave my grandma, was a Valentine's Day card saying how much he loved her. There is nothing more precious in this world than appreciating those who love and care about you unconditionally. So in my eyes, February the 14th is a day that I believe is more than just candy and flowers, to be spent yearning after a soul mate; it is a day that should be all about cherishing the moments with the people that you adore.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
