The Pelican state holds a special place in my heart.

11 Reasons To Love Louisiana
Lexie Klingler

Louisiana has been considered home to me for my entire life. I grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana before moving to Moore, Oklahoma. The majority of my family still resides in Louisiana and it is unfortunate that I am only able to visit once or twice a year. The food is phenomenal, the football spirit is constantly alive and who doesn't love New Orleans? Although I attend the University of Oklahoma, Louisiana will always have my heart.

1. The food

Cajun food is by far the best food. The amount of freshness that the seafood has in comparison to other states makes it very difficult to leave. If you ever get the chance to visit Louisiana, be sure to eat all of the seafood you can because it doesn't get much tastier than Louisiana seafood. Be sure to try crawfish etouffee, gumbo, and a good ole fashioned poboy.

2. LSU

Being a sooner fan and a tigers fan is contradicting, but LSU football is amazing. The amount of hype the students and fans contribute at the game is unreal. Attending an LSU football game is one of the most riveting feelings. Geaux Tigers!

3. The Saints

The Saints are an essential part of Louisiana. Drew Brees and his teammates have given back to the community several times. Being a Saints fan isn't the easiest, but the fans stay true no matter what. And yes, we still hold on to the Super Bowl win. Who dat nation forever!

4. New Orleans

New Orleans is the staple of Louisiana. The atmosphere is so lively and upbeat, and let's be honest, who doesn't love drinking on the streets? The wide variety of restaurants, music, shops, entertainment and drinks are just a few aspects that attract tourists. If you are looking for a good time, be sure to visit Nola.

5. Liquor in Grocery Stores and Gas Stations

Yes people, you read that correctly. Liquor is available to buy in grocery stores and gas stations. There is no need for special trips to the liquor stores because it is readily available just about anywhere you go. Louisiana also has drive-thru daiquiri stands. Oklahoma has very strict liquor laws, so coming home to Louisiana is convenient.

6. Beignets

Fried dough topped with powdered sugar... What more could you ask for?

7. The People

The people in Louisiana are by far some of the nicest people I have met. It just so happens that I get the pleasure of being with my family when I visit Louisiana. It is like a two-for-one deal.

8. "Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler"

Or in other words, "Let the good times roll." The phrase sums up the attitude and personality of most Louisianans and gives credit to the French heritage. There is always something fun to do and everyone is welcome to join.

9. Music

If you love music then Louisiana is the place to be. There is such a wide variety of music. From jazz to rock n' roll to country, Louisiana has it all.

10. Mardi Gras

Fat Tuesday is celebrated to the extreme in Louisiana. It is the season of king cakes, beads, parades, masks and everything purple, green and gold.

11. Religion

Catholic is the prime religion in Louisiana. There is a small percentage of Oklahoma that is Catholic, which makes if difficult to be able to express beliefs and values, but coming to Louisiana allows me to share the same beliefs with others around me.

I am proud to be from Louisiana. The music, food, family and football keep me coming back for more. We know how to party on a Saturday and pray on a Sunday.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
