Autumn is an amazing time of year, especially in New England. If you don't already love it, here are 11 reasons why you should.

1. Halloween

This is the time of year for haunted hayrides and pumpkin carving, and for some people (including myself) it’s an excuse to eat a ton of candy.

2. Sweater weather

There is nothing better than sunny days and cool nights. The weather is perfect for spending time outside, whether it's going for walks or having the windows rolled down while you’re driving.

3. Football season

Football season in New England is a blast. It’s a ton of fun getting together with family and friends to eat junk food and cheer on the Patriots. Patriot’s fans are unlike any other, their dedication is unwavering and their spirit is strong.

4. Pumpkin flavored everything

This is the only time of year its acceptable to have pumpkin flavored everything, ranging from the tradition pumpkin pie, to muffins, coffee and even candy. One step into any bakery in town and it’s the only thing in sight.

5. Thanksgiving

A day where you wake up feeling a little more blessed than usual. It’s a perfect time to do a little extra community service in your neighborhood and spend some time with the whole family. It’s a holiday that revolves around family traditions, and a lot of really good food.

6. Bonfires

The chilly nights are perfectly paired with the warm glow of a bonfire, and more perfectly paired with a couple of s’mores.

7. Movie nights

Abc family and Disney Channel are famous for their Halloween movies, some of my favorites include "Halloween Town," "Hocus Pocus," and Tim Burton's "Corpse Bride."

8. Apple picking

This is probably one of my families favorite pastimes around this time of year. Apple picking is a great outdoor activity that’s perfect for people of all ages. The fresh apples taste way better when you pick them yourself, and if you’re talented in the kitchen you can even make some homemade apple crisp.

9. Daylight Saving time ends

Because who doesn’t love getting an extra hour of sleep?

10. Warm drinks

America runs on Dunkin all year round, but warm drinks seem to taste so much better in the fall. Whether it be coffee, hot chocolate, or apple cider, it’s hard not to be happy when you have a warm drink in your hands on a cool autumn day.

11. Leaves changing color

Probably the best part about autumn in New England, because it’s not something you see all over the country. The leaves start to turn vibrant shades of red and orange and the views are breathtaking. There really is nothing like it.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
