11 Reasons to Get Excited for the Summer Olympics

Once every four years, we are blessed with a fun, little thing called the Summer Olympics. A tradition that dates back to ancient Greece, not a games goes by that I don't wish I were in better shape, or dream that my husband will one day be as hot as the entire men's gymnastics team. In just over a month, August 5th will bring us yet another two weeks worth of extreme athleticism, low self-confidence and record-breaking performances. Here's 11 reasons you should be excited af.

1. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil being the host of this year's games.

There are few cities as gorgeous and exotic as Rio. Not only will the athletes be in paradise, but hopefully you'll feel like you are too just by watching.

2. Feeling more passionate about being American than you do on the Fourth of July.

Doesn't matter what sport or who it is, if they're wearing red, white and blue, you scream for them.

3. Men's gymnastics.

I don't think there's much of an explanation needed here.

4. Women's gymnastics.

I really don't understand how people excel at this sport. It literally seems like the hardest thing ever, so major props to both the men and women who are the best in our country at it.

5. Cheering for athletes from your alma matter.

I'm always a proud Gator, but during the Olympics I scream particularly louder for anyone repping orange and blue.

6. Being motivated to get into better shape for at least two weeks.

My actual thought process while seeing the female athletes: "Wow, look at them go. Why did I eat that extra cookie earlier? I bet if I work really hard I could look like that. Time to diet."

7. The amount of screen time Michael Phelps' newborn, Boomer Phelps, will get.

Honestly his entire family is just extremely cute when they cheer for him, and considering he's the most decorated Olympian of all time (not to mention he's also gorgeous), he definitely deserves it.

8. All of a sudden having the urge to become a T.V. broadcaster.

They are literally getting paid to travel the world, interview famous athletes and have a blast. Goals? I think so.

9. Men's swimming.

Again I really don't feel the need to explain.

10. The closing (and opening) ceremonies.

Past performers include Celine Dion, One Direction, the Spice Girls and even Coldplay. No doubt this year's will be equally as beautiful and amazing.

11. For once, the world is focusing on something positive.

With all the evil we see on T.V., it's refreshing to have something we can all celebrate.

There you have it. The Summer Olympics really are something special. I know I'm stoked, and you should be too.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
