No one likes getting sick. But getting sick in college? Now that's the worst. Here are 11 reasons why.
1. You don't have time to get sick, so you deny it.
Between morning lab, class, chapel, studying for tests, a club meeting, intramural game, and late night devo, you don't have a single moment to spare to be sick. So you just keep going, going, going and pretend like you feel fine.
2. But once you acknowledge the sickness, you're super dramatic about it.
3. You'll infect the rest of the dorm floor....
Not because you want to, but because it's just impossible to keep away from the germs in those close-and-personal living spaces. Sorry friends.
4. ...and the rest of the university too.
Because everyone else is touching the same door knobs, pullover desks, and cereal dispensers as you are. The poor card-scanning ladies in Gano...
5. You miss your mom.
Nobody's there to bring you tissues and check your temperature and make you chicken soup and remind you take your medicine. You have to do it yourself, which is just sad.
6. You have to go the doctor by yourself.
Which will result in you calling your parents because you no, you don't remember your family's medical history and also how does insurance work again?
7. You keep your roommate up all night because of your coughing.
Sorry.
8. You can't skip class because you'll lose your extra credit on the final if you don't have perfect attendance.
Thank you, school, for teaching me that my grades are more important than my physical well-being.
9. You realize that college is a cesspool of disease and sets you up perfectly to catch one of them...
Little sleep, poor nutritional habits, not drinking enough water, lots of shared items going around—college is basically the ultimate trap for getting sick (maybe second to preschool).
10. ...and at the same time, you recognize that you're not going to change any of that.
Despite good intentions to get more sleep and stay healthy, the busy schedule of college will take you right back to those old habits once this round of sickness has passed. Which means:
11. It probably won't be long before you're sick again.

Even though it's no fun to be sick, it's just a part of life. And for all of the annoying and gross parts about it, it's also a good reminder to stop and take care of yourself, and to be grateful for all of the times when you weren't sick—times that we take for granted so easily.
Here's hoping that time will be back soon! Now go get some rest.
