11 Reasons You Should Send Your Child to Summer Camp
Bold Earth

I have been going to summer camp for the last 15 years of my life. I spent 10 summers as a camper, 2 summers as a Counselor-In-Training, and this is my third summer on staff. Needless to say, I love summer camp and believe it can truly change lives.

1. It teaches them responsibility.

Between the youngest kids learning to get ready in the mornings by themselves and the older kids being role models for the younger kids, your child will come home a more responsible child.

2. They learn to voice their opinions.

Camp gives them the chance to speak up about what activities they would like to do and even just speaking up about little things like food will give them the opportunity to speak up more and not be afraid.

3. They learn to appreciate nature more.

Between hiking for fun and walking to and from activities, nature is everywhere and it gives you child a chance to experience and appreciate it more.

4. Camp gets them to be more active.

Your child will walk everywhere they go, swim, and play all sorts of fun, active games.

5. It introduces them to people from different backgrounds and teaches them to make friends.

Children from a variety of backgrounds will attend summer camp and your child will get the chance to meet a lot of other interesting and friendly campers. They become fast friends with the people in their cabin and their activities.

6. It challenges their fears.

Whether it's climbing to the top of the challenge course or riding a horse, your child will get to conquer a fear of theirs in a safe environment.

7. They are introduced to new activities.

All summer camps have a variety of activities including horseback riding, archery, challenge course, fishing, and tons of other activities.

8. They are disconnected from technology and the outside world.

They may be upset about it at first since our youth is so attached to their phones these days, but going one week without their phone will help them not only become better friends with their cabin mates, but to really appreciate and immerse themselves in all the activities going on.

9. They will develop leadership skills.

They are given the chance to lead within their cabin and their activities and develop confidence in their leadership skills.

10. Camp encourages personal growth.

Between becoming a better leader, conquering their fears, and becoming more independent, your child will go through some noticable personal growth.

11. They have fun!

This summer is my 15th summer to spend at my summer camp and I can honestly say that going to summer camp has impacted me in each of these ways and so many more. Each summer just gets better and more fun and I'm not even sure how that's possible but it's totally true.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
