From a young age, we've all been enchanted by the magical wizarding world introduced to us through the Harry Potter series. But if you're like me, your acceptance letter to Hogwarts somehow got lost in the mail back when you were 11. While this came as a major disappointment, you almost made up for it by going to a college or maybe even boarding school, that looks just like it. Seriously. If you're unsure whether or not you are one of those lucky few, here are some indicators that yes, your school has an uncanny resemblance to Hogwarts:
1. At least one building can be identified as gothic architecture.
You know the kind. Big stone buildings, flying buttresses. If there’s a church on campus, it’s probably considered gothic architecture — or at least your tour guides will say it is.
2. Cloisters
These are an absolute necessity. Imagine Harry and his friends not walking through hallways that have arched ceilings.
3. There's a quad surrounded by buildings.
If said quad is enclosed by cloisters, even better.
4. The school's president is called the headmaster.
Extra points if he is as elderly, yet as bada** as Dumbledore. Or if has a beard.
5. There are prefects...
6. Who might even take academics a little too seriously.
7. You sometimes wear strange hats that are thrown into the air when exciting things happen.
8. You might even wear weird robes to class on a daily basis.
Although I'm not sure why anyone would actually think that was a good idea.
9. There's a forbidden forrest.
Or at least a medium-sized cluster of trees somewhere on campus. But it has to look ominous when it's foggy.
10. Secret passages underneath the school.
If your school is old enough, there will be a plethora of secrets just waiting to be uncovered. Whether it's old steam tunnels or your very own Chamber of Secrets, these are a necessity for the Hogwarts-esque school.
And, last but certainly not least...
11. The dining hall
If your school's cafeteria is called a dining hall, has lofty ceilings or big wooden tables, then it probably shows at least some resemblance to the Great Hall.
While many schools may not really have gothic architecture, and their Chamber of Secrets looks more like a small closet under the staircase, students may still claim their campus is "just like living at Hogwarts." But don't worry, if your school has any number of these aforementioned qualities, then congratulations -- you're living the dream. I guess.
