Resident assistants, mostly known as the campus watch dogs, or the coolest people you will ever encounter in your life, are the biggest part of the college experience. RA's take the actual the time out of their busy lives to show you (freshmen/ past freshmen) how to "adult". They are the ones that helped you apply for jobs on campus, they are the ones that helped you schedule classes, or drove you to class in -40-degree weather. They are the ones that held your hand when you lost someone, or talked you off of the ledge of hopelessness. They were the ones that helped you graduate from your university! Yes, they are the ones that take away your booze and scold you when you are too loud, but wouldn't you say that the pros far out way the cons? RA's are literally spirit guides that help you through your freshmen year of college. Generally, we all get it after that first year, but they are still a clipboard holding hero somewhere in the wings for students to call upon in their hour of need whenever you need it!

Because who are you gonna call?

THE DUTY PHONE!

Now that we've established how awesome RA's are, what's stopping you from becoming one? Here are 11 reasons why Reslife might just be the best life. Are you ready to be someone else's spirit guide? Do you have what it takes? Do you think you could be the RA that you needed to someone else?

1. RA's get free room and board, and you know what that means!

2. RA's get to know everything! They are literally like Gretchen Wieners, they know all, see all, and keep all locked away.

3. RA's may not always be the policy enforcers on the floor, but when a resident breaks one they actually have cause to yell at said silly resident which we all know is quite therapeutic.

4. RA's have a stigma of always having valuable life advice. Whether or not the RA really knows a lot, any little bit helps.

5. RA's get to participate in arts and crafts often, and nobody judges them for putting $50 worth of glitter on a bulletin board because it helps you make better life choices.

6. RA's always have a busy schedule helping others that they never get judged for how messy their room is, no matter how many markers, shreds of paper or mountains of clothing cascade the floor. It's all good man, you got stuff to do.

7. An RA's life is never a dull one, every day is a new adventure, or a new battle that they must face with courage in their hearts and fire in their eyes.

8. RA's are never judged for the way they look when it comes to their duty nights, and the mornings after duty nights. There is no such thing as a walk of shame, but a badge of honor. I woke up like this because I am an RA!

9. RA's always get to know what residents like, making every conversation interesting no matter who they are talking to! The possibilities are endless!

10.RA's not only work on campus, but they are students on campus! RA's have a reserved right to have a schedule, that doesn't include residents so once your time is up, it is up. Bye.

11. It takes a special kind of person to deal with all the people that RA's do, but in the end, they really didn't have a choice...

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?
