11 Reasons My Dog Is My Best Friend

There's no better friend in life than a canine companion.

11 Reasons My Dog Is My Best Friend
Abigail Adams

This is my best friend. He's got four legs, a happy tail, and perky ears that scream curiosity. No human could ever compare to the connection I have with my true soulmate - my dog. I could think of a million reasons why I love him from the bottom of my heart, but here are just 11 to sum it all up:

1. He never fails to make me smile.

Every little thing he does makes me grin. Whether he's running in his sleep or dropping a slobbery tennis ball in my lap, it's his smile that keeps a smile on my face.

2. He doesn't care what I look like.

Wearing dark colors is virtually impossible with him, something frustrating for me but trivial to him. He's a constant reminder that love isn't based off of looks, even if he is the cutest dog on the planet.

3. He always wants to cuddle.

Morning snuggles include a belly rub, a little 'Price is Right' and snoozing on the couch. No one's more fun to curl up and nap with than my favorite furry friend.

4. He's always down for an adventure.

Whether it's exploring a new park, walking on the beach, or going for a run, I know I have at least one friend who always wants to join. Sometimes he's the one who takes me on an adventure!

5. In fact, he wants to hang out at all hours of the day.

He doesn't quite understand that I would rather nap after work than play tug-of-war with a rain-soaked rope. Nor does he understand that you don't want to play outside at midnight. But somehow he tends to get his way.

6. He's my own personal vacuum.

Dropping food on the floor or getting crumbs anywhere isn't a problem with him by my side (as long as it isn't chocolate!) The only use for a real vacuum anymore is to clean up his shedding fur.

7. He's the best shoulder to cry on.

Nothing is more comforting than leaning on a furry shoulder when I'm feeling down and out. He doesn't need to know who or what hurt me, all that matters to him is restoring the happiness of his human.

8. He even cries when I leave him.

He always knows when someone's about to leave, and he'll make sure you feel at least a little guilty for leaving him for what he thinks is forever. Cue the puppy dog eyes!

9. Leaving him for extended periods of time is one of the hardest things to do.

Just as sad as he is to see me leave, I'm sad to leave him behind. There's a sort of emptiness in a person when you feel removed from your best friend, especially one with an undying desire for your companionship.

10. No matter what, he's always happy to see me.

The look on his face when he realizes his friend is home will be forever priceless. Nothing feels better than a warm welcome from his crooked smile and wildly wagging tail.

11. He loves me for who I am.

He could care less what I look like, what my politics may be, how much money I make, or anything that might trivialize any normal friendship. He just knows that as long as I love him forever, he'll love me and that's all you can ever ask for out of a best friend.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

mu bucket list

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
