11 Reasons To Love The Wildwoods

The Wildwoods may only cover a few miles of New Jersey coastline, but they are the place countless families return to each summer for vacation. Like so many other people, an important part of my childhood was our family tradition of staying at the beach for a week. We've been vacationing in Wildwood Crest for years, and certain parts of the area seem to never change. These places occupy a special place in our memory.

1. The Boardwalk

Where else can you find the best roller coasters, people watching, junk food and incredible pizza?

2. "Watch the tram car, please."

If you've ever stepped foot on the boardwalk you've undoubtedly heard it. Over and over. And over.

3. The beaches

The Wildwood beaches sometimes seem forever long, especially when you're hauling beach chairs and coolers or forgot your shoes. Nonetheless, the sand is always powdery and the waves are usually pretty good.

4. The surf shops

Over the years, the local surf shops have expanded and new ones have been added. My favorite is Wild Ocean, but the other classics include Kona, Ocean Outfitters and Sand Jamm.

5. Rambler Road.

Ramber Road is where the lifeguard station is located, but also where the designated surfing section of the beach is. Ocean Outfitters hosts surf camp there most weekdays, and it's always fun to stop and watch the surfers (and the wipe outs).

6. The ice cream

It's always hard to choose where to get your ice cream, because there's so many great options. There's Kohr Bros on the boardwalk, Banana's Ice Cream Cafe, Sea Shell Ice Cream or Duffer's. Or my personal favorite, Polish Water Ice on the boardwalk.

7. The mini golf

What's a beach town without mini golf? There are several mini golf courses throughout the Wildwoods and on the boardwalk.

8. The Wildwood sign

This is the classic tourist photo op, and marks the beginning of the boardwalk. Kids can climb on the beach balls surrounding the sign and they even used to have a live recording of the area on the website. People get really creative with their pictures, apparently.

9. Mack's Pizza

According to some, this is up for debate. I'm a big fan of Mack's pizza and have the shirt to prove it. As far as boardwalk pizza is concerned, it's as good as it gets.

10. The plane advertisements that fly over the beach

You'll see everything written on the white banners that fly behind the planes. I've seen everything from from drink specials to 20 percent off bathing suits. There's even been marriage proposals.

11. The fireworks

Every Friday night, the boardwalk puts on a great firework show that can be seen from pretty much everywhere on the beach. It's a great way to end (or start) a beach vacation.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
