11 Reasons Why I Love My Small College

Attending a small private Christian Colleges is probably one of the best decisions that I have ever made in my life. I never thought I would be the girl to go to a small school and love it, but in the past year, I have grown so much as a person thanks to this little bitty school. Here are a few reasons why I love attending a small school:

1. I never go anywhere without seeing someone that I know.

Weather I am in the cafeteria or walking around campus, I always will see one of my friends or a person that I know. There is always someone I know to smile at and say "hey" to or to grab for a quick Wal-Mart run.

2. Learning is fun.

Since my college only has about 500 students, total my class size is super small compared to other colleges. It makes learning a lot more fun because there is a constant interaction with the professor and with my classmates.

3. Small class size.

Having a small class is very beneficial to me because I get to have a lot of one on one time with my professor. Also, I am able to get more help from my professor rather than I would at a larger college. They are able to meet with you in their office and actually have a conversation with you because there are not other students waiting to speak to him or her.

4. I'm not just a number.

At larger colleges most students feel as if they are only a number in the eyes of their college's staff, but I love having a relationship with all of my professors and even the president.

5. Small campus size.

Unlike at larger colleges I have a short walk to class or anywhere on campus nothing is too far to walk to.

6. Syllabus day

Not sure how larger universities work, but syllabus week at our school is the best! We literally are handed the syllabus and dismissed.

7. More club opportunities

Without thousands of students trying to get into the clubs, it's a lot easier to join. Also, the clubs are smaller so they are more fun to be in because you're interacting more.

8. Leadership positions

Anyone has the opportunity to have a leadership position. Many people can even have multiple leadership positions.

9. Athletes are treated as equal

Athletes are not put on a higher pedestal than all the other students. They are treated the same way in the classroom, as well.

10. Alumni are very involved

There is usually at least one alumni on campus always.

11. Campus feels like home

You always have someone to support you no matter where you are. Whenever something big happens on campus, the whole school comes together like one big family.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
