11 Reasons I love Easter

Spring, family time, and good food all come together.

Spring is a beautiful time of the year, and Easter is a beautiful holiday. Out of the many reasons I love Easter, here are my top 11.

1. Family Time

No matter which holiday I'm celebrating, I love spending time with my huge family. However, getting together on Easter is probably one of my favorite times. The children are there, everyone is excited for the spring and it is warm enough to be outside.

2. Seeing the excited children

With egg hunts and candy, children are almost as excited for Easter as they would be for Christmas. However, Easter is less embedded in presents in today's society as Christmas, so they're less distracted than they would be on Christmas.

3. Easter Egg Hunts

On your mark, get set, GO! All of the children (and some older people) race to find eggs filled with candy, prizes or money. It is a great moment to see an older child pass an opportunity to get an egg by giving it to a younger child.

4. Dressing up

Since it is usually warmer on Easter than a lot of prior holidays, it is one of the first holiday that you are able to dress up for.

5. The Food

Whether your family serves a ham dinner, a cookout-style meal or anything else, it is always fun to sit down with your family and enjoy a meal together?

6. The desserts

When the wonderful food has been put away, they bring the desserts out. When you're sick of candy, you get a choice of fruit salad, cookies, cupcakes, and much money. With pretty pastels and great desserts, where could you go wrong?

6. The Weather

As said before, Easter is one of the first warm holidays of the year. Most of the time, it is warm enough to have the party and egg hunts outside in the sun!

7. Easter Baskets

Whether you're making them or opening them, baskets are one of my favorite forms of a present. Filled with some candy and small toys for the little kids, it is sure to make them smile!

8. Watching kids enjoy their new toys

Whether it was a jump rope from her Easter basket, or a ball she won during the egg hunt, children love to play with their new outdoor toys in the nice weather!

9. The Candy

Not only are the baskets and eggs filled with it, but Easter candy is in many stores. The best part of the day after when it is all on clearance at the store. Some of my favorites are cookies and cream bunnies, marshmallow-filled chocolate, and peanut butter cups shaped like eggs.

10. "The Spring Feeling"

Since Easter is one of the bridges between winter and spring, I can't help but feel like Easter is the first "spring" holiday. With beautiful weather, family time, and all of the events, I can't help but feel myself feeling the excitement for the rest of spring.

With the family time, the nice weather, and much more, Easter is one of my favorite holidays. Not only do we finally get to dress up and be together in nice weather, but it sets the stage for the rest of the cookouts of the year.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
