10 Reasons Why I Love My Big Brother
Alli Huff

1.You always protect me.

Most girls have to worry about their dads being overprotective, but I have a double whammy with a protective dad and big brother. You always stand up for me and speak your mind when you think something is not good enough for me. You let it known that you're a force to be reckoned with.

2. You have a good sense of character.

You always seem to know who is worth being in my life and who isn't even when I do not see it. You have some magical power where you can see people for who they really are. You always try to help me navigate through the people in my life.

3.You taught me about sports.

You taught me all about plays and how to shoot a free throw. You let me play against you in sports video games, and sometimes you even let me win. You taught me how to juggle a soccer ball and how to be aggressive.

4.You were my chauffeur for years.

You got your license way before I did so you were my ride for a very long time. You took me and my friends places, and sometimes you even let me choose the music. You took me for late night food runs or even for just a drive to talk.

5.You're my secret keeper.

I can always tell you my mistakes or my embarrassing moments because odds are you will be able to top it. You tell me about all your problems even the silly ones. You give me advice which I love because it actually helps or its so crazy it makes me laugh.

6.You're my personal comedian.

You're one of the funniest people I have ever known. I do not remember a time when you couldn't make me laugh. Every time I got stressed or down it just took you one joke to make me remember that life is awesome. You are hilarious and you keep me laughing and I do not know how you do it.

7.You put up with my girlishness.

You act like you care when I talk fashion and hair. You have even let me pick out some clothes for you. You know I am always one to compliment your new sneakers, and hey sometimes you even notice when I change my hair. You put up with countless barbie dolls and explosions of pink all over the house growing up. Basically everything you had was at chance for falling victim to girlishness.

8.You are always up to just chill...with food of course.

We do not have to do anything outrageous to have fun. We can just chill on the couch and be content, plus I am always up for stealing your snacks.

9.You love me and put up with me when I am annoying.

Little sisters can sometimes get on big brothers nerves and we know that. However, you always took it like a champ and just rolled with it. Sometimes I was even able to make you laugh too.

10.You're my best friend.

You've always been and always will be my go to guy because you always have my back. you are my best friend and few people know me like you do. You keep me on my toes and always challenge me. You give me funny and serious advice. You protect me while also letting me do my own thing at times. You always let me be your shadow and let me go on adventures with you. I love you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
