11 Reasons Why Lilo and Stitch Was Revolutionary

Lilo and Stich showcased something that was missing from mainstream television. It showed that it was okay to be different and that not everyone is supposed to be the same. Here are just some ways they happened to do that.

1. All kinds of body types were displayed.

Because not all kids look like Princess Elsa.

2. Nani put raising Lilo before anything else.

Nani was literally 19 when she had to start raising Lilo. Try to put that into perspective.

3. It showed how families come in all shapes and sizes.

Not all families have a mom and dad and that's okay. The important thing is that whoever your family might be, that they are there for you whenever you need them,

4.It also showed that not every family is wealthy.

I've always wondered how every Disney family can afford these huge houses and still be able to make regular appearances.

5. You can be friends with whoever you want to be friends with.

Friends come in all forms. Some crazy, some funny and some just ridiculous, but they're still you're friends.

6. The show depicted kids how they really are... mean and not very empathetic.

It always baffles me how in movies/shows when bullies and the person who received said bullying somehow become friends in the end. Like, no. Get away from me.

7. The film/show displayed a different culture.

This country is called a melting pot for a reason.

8. It was a realistic show with realistic realities.

Not every person lives to see another day.

9. Lilo was not your average child.

Personally, i was not your "normal" everyday child and was good to see that I wasn't the only one.

10. Nani proves that she doesn't need a man to make her happy.

David was cool and all, but we all knew that Nani had no problem taking care of herself.

11. Most importantly, it showcased a variety of role models.

From a four-armed, blue-furred, alien with super strength to a scatter brained, mischievous little girl with a big heart. There was something for everybody.

As a little kid, I had very few role models to look up to, very few cultures to appreciate and very few people who looked like me. Lilo and Stitch gave me, as I hope for all young children, a feeling of belonging.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
