11 Reasons To Drop Everything And Watch "Jane The Virgin"

When I had first heard of the show "Jane the Virgin," I was skeptical. I had made assumptions that it would be nothing more than your average rom-com on an, albeit, unusual circumstance. I had never been so happy to be wrong. Yes, there is the rom-com main plot that takes place surrounding Jane and her complicated love life, but in the background of the plot is a series of subplots which, in true telenovela fashion, contain crime, drug lords, deception, kidnapping, murder, etc. Seriously, the list goes on. With every episode you are sucked in and thrown into the next. Before I knew it, I had finished all of Season 1... in three days. In honor of the second season being released on Netflix, I've made a list of all the reasons you need to drop everything and jump on the bandwagon. And yes, they are all characters because without a doubt this is the most convincing cast I have seen in a long time.

1. Jane Gloriana Villanueva (duh).

Jane is our home-girl protagonist. She's a sweetheart to the core, a true romantic (which is something I can totally relate to). And while her big expectations can sometimes lead her astray, we got to love her for standing up for what she believes in. No matter what is going on in her life, we will always be #TeamJane.

2. Rafael Solano.

Super rich, biological daddy of Jane's baby. He definitely puts viewers (and Jane) through an emotional roller coaster, but if him and Jane are not the cutest thing on this planet, then I don't know what is. Not that I'm picking sides but...#TeamRaf.

3. Rafael's smolder.

I had to mention this.

4. Rafael's smile.

And this.

5. Just Rafael.

One more moment of silence, please.

6. Michael Cordero.

The ex-fiance of Jane, with an undeniable puppy-like quality. I find myself rooting for him at some points, but then being totally angry with him at other points. He claims him and Jane are meant to be. I'm still skeptical.

7. Xiomara Gloriana Villanueva.

She's the embarrassing mother we all are happy we didn't have. However, all her flaws make Xo one of the most likable and relateable characters on the show. She is always willingly to fight for her family. And also having a character who acts first, thinks later, is a nice balance to our lovely Jane.

8. Alba Gloriana Villanueva.

Alba gives the grandmotherly tough love in this family. She's the one who keeps our girls on track. The show, much like the Villanueva family, would be lost without her.

9. Rogelio de la Vega.

Jane's telenovela star father, and probably my favorite character. He honestly makes me laugh without even doing anything. He is the epitome of self-involved, and his quirks make him such a lovable character. He tries his best and we love all the effort he puts into making his family happy.

10. Rogelio and Michael's bromance.

Seriously, since we were on the topic of Rogelio. How cute are they?

11. Petra Solano.

Rafael's scheming ex-wife. Do I love her or do I hate her? I literally ask myself this question after the end of every episode. I really can't decide if I feel bad for her or if she's actually the worst human being on the planet. Talk about making a complex villain, this show has definitely accomplished that.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
