I love my dog. Probably too much, if I’m being honest. She’s a golden retriever, yellow lab mix named Bailey. My family constantly bemoans how I talk to her in a baby voice, I beg my mom to send me video updates of her every week (if not more), and my friends are regularly subject to my squealing about how cute she is and how much I love her.

Basically, she’s my favorite part about life. A lot of people love dogs, some don’t--but it’s undeniable that they bring happiness to millions of people worldwide. Here are eleven reasons why dogs are the best.

1. They greet you like they haven't seen you in years.

They might be seeing you for the first time in a week. Or, maybe it's been two minutes. Either way, they are so excited.

2. They’ll always have your back.

3. Free cuddles.

They are up for snuggling at any time. This especially comes in handy during the winter.

4. Endless emotional support.

If you need to lay in bed, crying and eating junk food all day, they'll be more than happy to be with you the whole time. They'd be even happier if you gave them some of that food.

5. They never fail to make you smile.

No matter how awful you feel, the sight of your dog tilting their head or chasing their tail will lift your spirits.

6. They give the best kisses.

OK, they're kind of wet and sloppy. But, that doesn't mean they don't make you happier.

7. They're great exercise motivation.

Don't wait too long to take a dog on a walk, because they'll give you the eyes. Trust me--you do not want to face off with the eyes. You'll lose every time.

8. They're a built-in security system.

They'll protect you from everything. Literally everything---including that cat on the TV, or the shadow in the corner of the room.

9. You don't need a vacuum cleaner.

No matter what food or drink you spill, they'll eat all of it. In fact, they encourage you to drop food. At least you can save some money on an actual vacuum.

10. They love you unconditionally.

It's the best feeling in the world to know someone looks at you with only faith and admiration. You can only work to never betray that trust.

11. They’re your best friend.

You and your dog have the most amazing conversations, they give the most helpful advice, and--let's face it--you would be completely lost without them.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
