11 Reasons Why Dog People Are Better Than Cat People

Oh yes, the age old debate over if dogs are better than cats. I personally not only believe that dogs are better than cats, but I also believe dog people are better than cat people. I don’t judge people if they prefer cats to dogs, because I understand cats are great too. However, I do judge you if you don’t like dogs at all. I will 110% not even speak to you if you dislike animals in general, if I’m being honest. So here is a list of reasons why dog people are just a little better than cat people.

  • Dog people care about the well-being of others. How many seeing-eye cats have you seen in your life?
  • Dog people are more active. Dogs motivate people to go outside and exercise and even if you don’t like exercising, having a dog makes it more bearable.
  • Dog people tend to be less neurotic. I mean, do I even have to explain why this is a good thing?
  • You are known as a creepy cat lady if you have a lot of cats, but you are known as the cool person if you have a lot of dogs. Because no one has a fear of growing old and adopting too many dogs.
  • Dog people are more likely to live (or eventually live) with other people. They don’t call them crazy cat ladies for nothing.
  • Dog people are more extroverted than cat people. Probably because we have to go outside and walk our dogs and socialize with people.
  • Dog people are never really alone. Having a bad day? That’s okay; just come home and see how excited your dog is to see you. Come home from a bad day and look for your cat for 20 minutes only to find it asleep behind the curtains.
  • Dog people are persistent. Just like the dog that wont give up trying to catch the squirrel even though it’s in a tree, dog people are known for being assertive and persistent.
  • Dog people are more agreeable. Just like our fury counterparts, we tend to go with the flow more than cat people.
  • Dog people like diversity. Dog person: “I have two dogs; one is a Golden Retriever and the other one is half German Shepard half Beagle.” Cat person: “I have two cats; one is orange and one is gray.”
  • Dog people never run out of compliments about how their dog is the best. A cat person opts for a more love-hate relationship with their pet. Maybe because they have to deal with the mess cats make in litter boxes.

No matter what your preference is when it comes to pets, as long as you love them and treat them right, they will love you right back (no matter how they show it).

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
