As I enter my sophomore year of college, I can't help but reflect on the choices I've made, the people I've met, the opportunities I've received, and the challenges I've overcome, all of which have lead me to the place I am at in my life. While I do attribute a great deal of my good fortune to my loved ones and close friends, I will be forever in debt to the city of Agoura Hills.
Although I was not born in Agoura, I was lucky enough to enter the community as a freshman in high school. I was embraced with loving and welcome arms by a group of girls who were already so close, and brought me into their circle without a shred of hesitation. I'm still proud to call them my best friends. I quickly became familiarized with the city like the back of my hand, and fell for all of its quirks and charms. It is my honorary hometown, a symbol of friendship and promise, and a place where I have made cherished memories to last a lifetime. In celebration of "The Bubble," here are some ways you know that you're an Agouraian (I don't know if thats a thing, but let's roll with it).
1. You only eat at Woodranch before 7pm, or else there's no hope of getting a table at a reasonable waiting time.
2. You commonly run into your teachers at gas stations, restaurants, grocery markets, and Sweet Xo.
3. Everyone knows everyone. No exaggeration.
4. You are still mourning Bruegger's Bagels.
5. Trying to explain MyStory to other people is so frustrating, because its hard to justify what a life-changing experience it truly is
6. You sign up for everything at club rush just to get candy. (I see you with those chocolate croissants French Club).
7. People who live in Agoura avoid leaving Agoura at all costs.
8. The hiking trails are extremely underrated and so awesome.
9. Painting the A-Hill is a right of passage.
10. Anything is better than the Trader Joe's parking lot (yep, this even includes the Calabasas football team circa 2013).
11. Reyes Adobe Days is essentially a national holiday.
These fun little tidbits aside, Agoura is an amazing place to raise a family. Its small but not too small, down to earth, and comprised of caring and genuine people. Charger pride is a way of life!!!
Peace out A-Town.
