Whether we choose to acknowledge it or not, our exes have had significant impacts on our lives. They’ve changed who we are as people-- in good ways and in not-so-good ways. When it comes down to it, though, a lot of our development as people is impacted by our past (as well as present) relationships.

When I was doing my research, so to speak, for this article, I noticed that we all feel differently about our exes. Some of us have thanked them for their involvement in our lives; we admit that they’ve made us better people. Some of us even thank them for hurting us because it’s helped us grow.

Some of us wish them nothing but luck and happiness in their future while some of us are still… a bit salty about how our relationships dwindled out. Some of us still crave closure and some of us never want to look back. No matter the feelings we have, though, we can all relate to each other in one way or another.

1. "We were really good for each other, I’m sorry you weren’t ready to commit to me when that was all I needed to make us work.” -Anonymous

2. "I just want you to be happy, with whoever it may be.” - Adam, 19

3. "You were so immature and stupid that dating you made me a better person” -Jonelle, 19

4. "I wish I had told you that even though I saw all the red flags, I stayed with you anyway. I loved you that much.” -Courtney, 21

5. "I feel my exes aren’t even worth saying things to” -Taylor, 19

6. "Do you realize how much energy I put into you? You wasted so much of my time and I thank you for showing me I deserve the very best in this world and you definitely weren't it." -Anneke, 20

7. "You and I should have been friends before we dated. Would have made things a lot easier. But you taught me a lot about myself, so regrets don’t make sense at this point” -Luke, 21

8. "I didn’t really love you. I thought I did, but I really didn’t. And you didn’t love me either.” -Sara, 19

9. "I didn’t know anything about you nor did you know a thing about me. All I really knew was I was better off without you.” -Amber, 19

10. "I loved the idea of us, but I didn’t love you.” -Danielle, 19

11. "Thank you.” -Madison, 19

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
