There are certain hours, days, weeks and so on that are just not good. Maybe something awful has happened. Maybe you're just going through a period that feels uncertain. Maybe there's no real reason to feel negative, but you find it difficult to focus on anything but the negatives. In those times, even though doing so can sometimes feel hard beyond belief, focusing on some positive things is incredibly important. With that said, here's a list of some positives.

1. Netflix marathons

OK, Netflix marathons are good even when things are good. Netflix marathons are always good. If you're down, watching your favorite show for awhile can be a wonderful distraction or reminder of positive things. But don't let Netflix distract you too much. If you're really upset, facing what's bothering you and talking to others about it is important.

2. Your favorite drink

I would have just said a nice hot cup of coffee, but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea. As a matter of fact, for some people it's a cup of tea, a glass of chocolate milk, or maybe even a glass of orange juice. Comfort foods and drinks can go a long way in making things seem better.

3. Your favorite smell

Maybe this is a cup of coffee or tea. But one of my favorite smells is freshly mowed grass. It reminds me of free, warm summer days and feeling calm and content. A lot of the time it reminds me of having fun during summer vacation in elementary school, and those memories can be really comforting.

4. Laughing

Even when things seem really bad, a joke can improve the situation. I can think of moments where every thought I had seemed negative and doubtful, and someone still made me feel better by making me laugh. Maybe that laughter doesn't erase an issue completely, but it can make it seem less terrible and remind you of the things there are to feel good about.

5. A clear sky

I always feel a little closed in by the clouds. Seeing the expansive, blue sky and bright sun always make me feel a little more cheerful in any season. I feel the same way about the night sky. I absolutely love being able to see the stars and be in awe of what's out there. It makes things feel more magical and special.

6. A really good song

This is definitely a subjective song. But I have a list of songs that just make me feel good when I hear them. Whenever I listen to it, I feel really positive, determined and genuinely happy. For example, I always feel really happy when I listen to "O-o-h Child" by The Five Starships. It reminds me of one of the best scenes in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and of listening to it with my parents.

7. Doing a really satisfying task

Some tasks soothing to me are popping bubble wrap, tearing up old papers and re-organizing my desk. Doing something that will make you feel more balanced and calm, even if it is something odd like popping bubble wrap, can be great. I find this especially true of cleaning and organizing.

8. A mutual love of something

One of my favorite feelings is when someone I know really, really loves the same thing that I love, especially if it's a good friend. When one of your friends starts to love the same show as you, it's awesome. You can freak out about it in your own best friend way and just feel really happy.

9. A cool serendipitous moment

There are a lot of moments like this. One is when you really want to hear a song and it comes on by chance. I love when the song "Friday I'm In Love" plays on a Friday. Other such moments are when you really want a sundae and then it's sundae night in the cafe or when you find something you've lost when you've stopped searching for it.

10. Quiet time

Quiet time can come in a variety of ways. Maybe it's when an unexpected, calming silence falls. Maybe it's when you enter your room after a busy, loud day and sit in your room surrounded by hushed noises. One of my favorite kinds of quiet time is spent with other people. For example, I love sitting in a calm, dim room with friends all quietly listening to good music. Good relationships should mean the individuals can sit together and not speak without feeling uncomfortable.

11. Having a good conversation

While quiet time is important, having people that you can really talk to is key. Sometimes having a really genuine, serious conversation is necessary and will make you feel far better and extremely supported. I have had several conversations like that with no technology or drama to interfere. But good conversations don't have to be serious. Long talks about anything are amazing.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
