11 Pictures That Explain Why We Need Feminism

Many individuals truly believe that we no longer need feminism, including some females themselves. Talk about (internalized) misogyny! Obviously, women have more rights and freedoms than decades prior, but there is still work that needs to be done. Unrealistic standards, unequal pay and opportunities and victim blaming are just a few of the issues faced by women in the United States today. Not to mention the honor killings, FGM and forced marriages, amongst other tragedies, faced by women in other countries. Below are 11 pictures that explain why we still need feminism today:

1. Female genital mutilation is still a thing.

2. Intersectional oppression is everywhere.

3. Women are significantly more likely to be impoverished.

4. Young girls are taught about being modest and covering up in order to stay safe.

5. People accuse victims of “asking for it.”

6. ...and unnecessarily question and blame victims,

7. ...even though one in four women are sexually assaulted.

8. Women who share their opinions are often viewed as “strong” or “b*tchy.”

9. ...or dismissed as “angry,” while it’s expected of men to have strong opinions,

10. ...which helps explain why most CEO’s are men.

11. And finally, feminists are attacked for simply wanting equality and again accused of “playing victim,” dismissing the real issues that exist.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
