11 New Year Resolutions We All Should Make

They are the smarter resolutions

11 New Year Resolutions We All Should Make
Gretchen Rubin

2017 is a new year. Out with the old and in with the new. We all have our ideal resolutions, but my specific eleven are resolutions that everyone can partake in and enjoy. Hopefully everyone that reads can add a few of these resolutions to their lists.

1. Eat More Unique Foods

My meals consist of college food meals. Pizza, noodles, tacos, and mac and cheese are the staples in many college kids lives. I want to eat food that is outside of this box. Something like squid, the worlds largest pancake, chicken feet, frog legs, or maybe escargot. Maybe not escargot but maybe. My mind is not made up yet.

2. Travel Outside Of Minnesota and Wisconsin

As much as I love my homeland, I would love to leave the Midwest. It would be nice to leave the country too, but for now I will focus on leaving these two states. I think it would be cool to go to Washington. I have heard the scenery is beautiful. Another cool place that I have wanted to go and visit is the Grand Canyon. The word beautiful does not do its description justice.

3. Enjoy Nature

I love flowers! All are beautiful, including dandelions. Yes I did just call dandelions flowers. Gardens are fantastic to visit. I started last summer by visiting the Reiman Gardens with my roommate. This summer I hope to take a few days off to travel and visit gardens and green houses.

4. Try Something New Outdoors

I tend to be a cautious person. I drive 60 in a 65 on a sunny day. In 2017 I want to get outside of my comfort door. Some ideas I have thought of are going to amusement parks, swimming, camping without a tent, hiking, and having a bonfire with friends. Although I know nothing about where to begin with planning these things I think they would be a lot of fun to try and do.

5. Bake Things That Are On My Pinterest Page

We all have that list of things that are on Pinterest and never get made. It maybe sad but my goal it to make one recipe from that list. I want to post it on Facebook and make sure it is something to be proud of not one of those things that end up on the Pinterest fail sites.

6. Visit Hometown Friends

You would think this would be easy, nope it is not. Between school, work, clubs, and sleep there is not much time for friends from back home. Last summer I made this resolution but it did not go that well. This year I am making it again. I plan on sticking to it a lot better.

7. Learn How To Make Pizza

As strange as it sounds I have always wanted to learn to make pizza. It is my favorite food. A thick crust pizza with four meats and mozzarella cheese hits the spot every time. If I could make this and perfect it that would be awesome!

8. Watch New Shows On Netflix

Netflix is my life (Aside from school, family, friends, food, and sleep). I have watched many seasons of many shows on Netflix. Some of the shows on Netflix are very strange so I have been sticking to shows that are on TV still. This shall change. If anyone has suggestions, send them my way.

9. Spend Money On Something Other Than Bills, School and Housing That Would Benefit My Life

I think it would be cool to buy the materials to make a garden at my mom's house. Home grown vegetables are a lot better than store bought. Plus I can plant flowers. It is a win win.

10. Finish My Book

As a hobby I write books. I started the summer before ninth grade and have been writing ever since. At first they were in notebooks. Then I received a tablet from college and began to write on it. After that I move on to typing them. Although my paper and tablet books are no longer around I still have 15 books on my computer. As a resolution I want to start and finish a book that people will want to read.

11. Breathe

This past year had many ups. But with every up there were downs. It is had to take a moment to stop and breathe. Although it can be hard, it is necessary to breathe to be able to regain your footing when you are down.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
