11 Must Dos Of Every New Semester

I have every intent of starting the semester strong and on the right foot! (For a week)

At the end of every semester I feel myself getting disorganized and sloppy.

And at the beginning of each semester I find myself promising I'll do better this time and "school better."

Here are all the things I promise myself at the beginning of every new semester... and between you and me... some of them don't even last the whole first week.

1. I'll be up by 9 am

I set alarms, I will be up by 9 am every morning, even if my class doesn't start until noon.

2. I will read all of the material before class

I know the truth: if you have heard the material before it's lectured on, you'll retain it better. So, read I will!

3. The MOST organized planner

I'm talking color coding, I'm talking sticky notes, I'm talking checking things off every day. Can't forget to do your work or study if your planner is organized, amirite?

4. Dress smart, be smart

Hair done, makeup professional, pants, and a jacket just in case. If I take myself seriously, maybe the professor will as well, and maybe it'll help me focus.

5. Communicate with the professor

If I have been communicating with them since day one, they're way more likely to work with me when end of semester comes.

6. Waste money less

Yeah, of course I'm going to limit the number of times I buy lunch each week. And of course I'm going to make coffee at home, I don't need it once I'm out and about.

7. Exercise more

It's good for my mental health. Walks ever single day, for at least an hour in total. View some nature, listen to some music, have so peaceful time. I can make room in my day to do it.

8. Watch less videos

No, I don't need to watch hours worth of YouTube, Netflix, and random Facebook videos every day. Self control is key.

9. Set personal deadlines

Waiting to do assignments until last minute usually bites me in the butt. I'd probably be a much happier person if I just worked on things throughout the week.

10. Get more involved

That grad school application isn't gonna write itself. I have to be heavily involved in groups and clubs and VOLUNTEER more.

11. Stay healthy

I am not interested in getting a lingering cold. So I will sleep a reasonable amount. I will eat all of the food groups. I will drink plenty of water. And when I'm feeling a little off, I will listen to my body's needs.

They're like new years resolutions, but they restart every semester. How many of these do you keep all semester?

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
