Sometimes the small things are the best.

Mint Life

Sometimes life gets a little too hectic, and we find ourselves swept up in everything. But if there's one thing I've learned in life, it's that sometimes it's worth it to just sit back and appreciate the small things we encounter. Whether it's the way the traffic lights bounce off of wet streets, a much-needed hug from someone you love, laughing until you cry with your best friends or sinking into a nice, warm bath at the end of the night, there are plenty of moments that we often take for granted. Sometimes all it takes is a second or two to revel in these beautiful, fleeting moments in order to see things more clearly.

1. Seeing the dust float in the sunlight.

Besides the fact that you're engulfed in a rather large amount of dirt, it's really quite quaint and beautiful looking. Just pretend that it's particles of gold showering you in your castle.

2. Wrapping yourself in a blanket burrito.

Had a long day? Wishing you were a baby again so you didn't have to adult? I'm 99% sure that the best way to solve those woes is to wrap yourself up like a burrito. The other solution is to eat a burrito. It's a win-win.

3. Finishing a book.

There's something so satisfying about closing a book for the last time. Now on to your book hangover.

4. Taking the first sip of a drink.

The feeling I get when I finally take a sip of that Dr. Pepper I've been craving for weeks is basically the definition of bliss. Gimme the fizz!

5. Letting out a dramatic sigh.

Every once in a while you just have to let out a sigh that's been stewing up inside of you. Be loud and proud; have no shame in your dramatic sigh game.

6. Watching the rain from your window.

I love the rain. Being in the rain, though? Not so much. Curling up with a cup of tea (or coffee, please don't attack me) and watching it from the window is the best. Really, any reason to stay inside is the best if I'm being honest.

7. Waking up and realizing you still have time to sleep.

True happiness is waking up at 3:47 a.m. and realizing that you still have hours left of sleep. Catching up on those Zzzzs? Yes, please.

8. When a dog is excited to see you.

I've never felt more appreciated and loved than I have when a dog is so excited to see me that it jumps on me, wags its tail and gives me kisses. This alone should make everybody a dog person.

9. Stretching out at the beginning/end of the day.

Whether you're in bed mustering up the energy to get the day started or you're finally home after a long, exhausting day, stretching out is the cure for everything. Heck, just do it right now!

10. Unleashing your inner pop star in the car.

To anyone who has passed me on the highway as I'm having the time of my life alone in my car: I'm sorry you had to see me give a dramatic rendition of an Adele song. Being in the car and listening to music is one of the most carefree experiences you can possibly have. Get a friend who doesn't hesitate to join you!

11. Rubbing your eyes without makeup on.

Being able to rub your eyes without worrying about smudging all of your hard work is one of life's purest pleasures. It doesn't feel so great when you're sobbing from school stress, though.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
