It's the new year and you're wondering what new type of music you should listen to. Well, you've come to the right place! I have 11 metal bands that you should start listening to.
1. Nightwish
My favorite band! Nightwish is a symphonic metal band from Finland. They are best known for basically being one of the most famous symphonic metal bands. They have had three female vocalist, all of whom combined their operatic vocals with Marco Hietala's harsh vocals. It's basically the best thing ever.
2. Delain
Delain is another symphonic metal band, except they don't really use a lot of choirs like Nightwish does. Their lyrics also focus on a variety of subjects, including love and the human condition.
3. Epica
Yet another symphonic metal band, Epica combines Simone Simmons's opera vocals with Mark Jansen's death growls. It's an interesting combination and it works well.
4. Kamelot
Tommy Karevik's vocals; enough said
5. Amaranthe
Amaranthe is unique in that they combine three types of vocals: Elize Ryd's pop vocals, Jake E's rock vocals, And Henrik Englund's death growls. I've never seen it done before, but Amaranthe makes it work.
6. Arch Enemy
A melodic death metal band from Sweden, Arch Enemy is unique in that lead singer Alissa White-Gluz and former singer Angela Gossow are capable of performing the death growls. If you're looking for some death metal to listen to, I highly recommend Arch Enemy.
7. Arkona
Arkona is a Russian folk metal band. Like Alissa White-Gluz, lead singer Masha Scream is also capable of doing the death growls. She performs songs with both clean vocals and death growls.
8. Sabaton
Sabaton sings mostly about war, and... oh geez. Just, just please check them out. Watch some of their videoblogs; it's worth it I promise.
9. Within Temptation
Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band, similar to Nightwish. On their most recent album, Hydra, they combined metal music with a few different types of music, including rap, which surprisingly sounded good. Check out "And We Run" if you don't believe me.
10. Sonata Arctica
Sonata Arctica is a progressive metal band from Finland. And, oh geez how do I describe them? Amazing? Emotional? Undescribable?
11. Lacuna Coil
Lacuna Coil was one of the first metal bands I listened to. Cristina Scabbia's voice is amazing and, oh geez she's a goddess.
