Whether he is known from comic books or the cinema, Steve Rogers, A.K.A. Captain America, is surely a name that most people have heard, and for good reason. The question here is, why him? What makes Steve Rogers a timeless hero compared to so many others? As 2016 commemorates 75 years of Steve Rogers, I have taken the time to reflect on life lessons that he has taught us through decades of comic books and movies. These are what make Steve Rogers the true hero he is.

1. Be yourself, not who others expect you to be.

Steve proves time and time again that he will never change himself for the sake of what others expect of him. He stays true to his beliefs even through tough times.

2. Bullies will never win.

"I don't want to kill anyone. I don't like bullies; I don't care where they're from." Steve doesn't want to go into war for the sake of killing people. All he wants to do is defeat the bully- in this case, Hitler- and prove that they will never win.

3. Stand up for what you believe in.

Showcased in his newest movie, Captain America: Civil War, Steve Rogers will continually voice his opinion when it is a matter that he strongly believes in and will not be dissuaded by even his closest friends.

4. True heroes are made up of good men.

"Whatever happens tomorrow you must promise me one thing. That you will stay who you are. Not a perfect soldier, but a good man." This was Dr. Erskine's last request to Steve because he knew that being a good man would always be better than the strongest soldier.

5. Never give up.

Even as he was rejected from joining the military countless times, Steve continued to pursue what he was passionate about. It worked out pretty well for him in the end.

6. Blind patriotism is dangerous.

And, in fact, is not patriotism at all. Steve has seen how blind patriotism "taken too far is fanaticism." Though he proudly served and fought for his country, Steve is aware of inequalities that make blind patriotism a danger for every citizen.

7. No one is perfect.

Often caught in difficult situations, Steve has had to make hard decisions and they are not always perfect. It is important to remember that he is only human, just as we all are.

8. Vengeance will never accomplish anything.

Another motif in the newest Captain America movie is vengeance. Everyone is fighting everyone and nothing but death and destruction comes from it.

9. Remember where you came from.

Staying humble is crucial to understanding the world around you. Remember your roots and keep yourself grounded. Never let fame or money go to your head.

10. United we stand. Divided we fall.

Strength is in numbers. When we are all fighting each other, the real enemy is getting away. Together we can make a difference.

11. Things change, and that's okay.

Steve has proved to us that through change comes new and sometimes better things. It might be scary- especially when you wake up from being frozen for a couple of decades- but change does not always have to be bad.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
