11 Life Lessons From 'Gilmore Girls'

From quick witted remarks to loving family moments, "Gilmore Girls" is relatable, and a perfect reminder for life lessons even as an adult. Lately I have been watching the show, (thank you Netflix), and have identified with so many of the stories and characters featured in the seven seasons. So here is a list of 11 life lessons, I have recently been reminded of while watching the hilarious lives of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore.

1. Food fixes everything.

Yes, that's right food fixes everything. From boy problems, to family movie nights, the Gilmore women know how to eat junk food right and use this "lifestyle" to solve any issue.

2. Take chances!

Logan taught Rory this valuable lesson about getting out of your head and just letting loose once in a while.

3. A loyal friend is all you need.

Once enemies and then later best friends, Paris and Rory were the epitome of a loyal friendship. Paris' bulldog personality proved her to be a valuable friend as she often stood up for Rory when necessary.

4. You can't always get what you want.

A sad, but true lesson shown throughout the series. However, the show always proved that getting what you want isn't always necessary the best for you.

5. Be yourself.

From silly dances, to Lorelai's extreme coffee addiction, the characters of Stars Hallow always remained true to themselves and proved that this is the best way to live life.

6. PMS can happen to anyone…even men.

Michel's hilarious comebacks and quips due to his emotional mood swings were always a great addition to the show and confirmed that men too can be quite sassy.

7. How to flirt…and how not to flirt.

The Gilmore women had their fare share of relationships throughout the series, and showed viewers the best and worst ways to make an impression.

8. It's okay to sing your feelings.

Yes, this was an emotional moment in the series, and proved that sometimes you just need to belt out those honest feelings if you are having trouble saying them in person.

9. Know your skills and appreciate them.

Lorelai was always a very honest character and was open about her faults very comically throughout the show.

10. Everyone has their own personal path.

The main characters of the series had a variety of life paths throughout the series and demonstrated that even the best laid life plans often change for the better.

11. COFFEE = EVERYTHING.

One of the most relatable aspects, especially for any college students, was Lorelai's coffee addiction. She remained open and honest for her love of coffee, and verified that coffee is a must at every meal!

So that was a quick list of the many life lessons featured on "Gilmore Girls." As the Fall weather moves in and the air gets a little too chilly to head outside, curl up on the couch, with Netflix, junk food, and plenty of coffee and relive some these many iconic moments from Stars Hallow.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
