Winning the hearts of Disney fans for decades, "The Lion King' has become the movie to beat for Disney animators. From the whimsical characters, to the catchy songs, to the heartbreaking and laughable moments, the movie shows it all. There are so many lessons we can take from these movies, here are a few of my favorites.

1. "I Just Can't Wait To Be King"

In this song, Simba sings about wanting desperately to grow up so that he could have no responsibilities. If only he would listen to Zazu because as we all know this isn't the truth. He was in such a rush to grow up. Hang on to your childhood while you can. Once it is gone you cannot come back.

2. Timon and Pumbaa

These two prove that even in the worst situations and in the most unlikely places, there will always be a friend, or stranger, who is willing to help. Simba needed support and Timon and Pumbaa were exactly that for him. Sometimes we need a little help, but also always keep in mind that sometimes others are the ones needing help.

3. Hakuna matata.

It means, "No worries for the rest of your days." This may be one of the biggest lessons to take out of this film. Replace your worries with joy, happiness and hope. There will always be a tomorrow and life will get better.

4. Living with scars.

In life, you will have your troubles and whether they are visible or not, there will be scars that you have to live with and move on from. Sometimes, it is something like losing a loved one or even being betrayed by one. We all have to live with them however and sometimes the truth takes a while to come out. Accept each other for who we are and learn from the mistakes each other has made. We don't have time to make them all ourselves.

5. The past can hurt.

Yes, things that happen to us can leave a lasting impression. We have two options. We can run away from it and let it haunt us for the rest of our lives, or we can meet the situations head on, face to face and get on with the life we were intended to have.

6. Circle of life.

"Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance" is what Mufasa tells Simba when explaining to him the circle of life. That everything relates to each other in one way or another and his job as king will be to help maintain this balance. It is also the job of humanity to help maintain this balance. (Hint -- recycle and use of less electricity is a way to help)

7. Our time is the sun.

"A king's time as ruler rises and sets like the sun. One day, Simba, the sun will set on my time here, and will rise with you as the new king." Nothing lasts. No one lasts. Make the best impression you can while you are here. Pass knowledge on from your generation to the next. Enjoy your time in the spotlight before it darkens.

8. Star guidance.

"Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars... So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. And so will I." You're never alone. Even on the darkest of nights, you're never alone.

9. Bravery.

"I'm only brave when I have to be. Being brave doesn't mean you go looking for trouble." I'll just leave this one here as is. It's pretty self explanatory.

10. Remembrance.

"You have forgotten who you are and so forgotten me. Look inside yourself Simba, you're more than what you have become." The best way to remember those who have gone before us is by living in their honor. By becoming who we are intended to be, we bring pride to our ancestors, even if they aren't around to see it.

11. The end.

No matter what happens, there is always more good than evil. Even in the darkest times, good will win.

I'm sure, like me, many of you received lots of gift cards over the holidays. After working retail seasonally, here are a few tips that I learned in order to make the employees at your favorite store just a little happier and not want to charge you extra on your purchase for being awful. I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
