11 Lessons From "Supernatural"
PoltronaNerd

Whether they're fighting demons in Kansas, hunting vampires in Colorado or camped out in the bunker, Sam and Dean Winchester have many lessons to give viewers of the hit show "Supernatural." Though they've faced many trials, heartbreaks and deaths in their 11 seasons, the boys have also felt the bond of family, the strength of love, and the power of courage. Here are 11 lessons that anyone can take away from "Supernatural:"

1. Family is a sturdy foundation to stand on.

Family is who you turn to when things go wrong, when things are wonderful and all the days in between. It isn't just the people who share the same blood that make up a family. It's about who is there for you through it all. The Winchesters always have each others' backs and even their adopted family (Castiel, Bobby, Kevin, etc.) is always there!

2. You always have to stand up when you're knocked down.

Sam and Dean are no strangers to hard times. They've been beaten, tortured and lonely. But never once did they give up or throw in the towel. If they hadn't had the courage to overcome the struggles, they wouldn't have made the difference that they had (They did stop the apocalypse, after all).

3. It’s totally okay to be goofy sometimes.

Life can be tough but there is still humor to be found amidst it all. Through all the pain, death, and heartbreak, Sam and Dean can still manage to make each other – and the viewers – laugh. There’s always a time and place for it, but you can’t be serious all the time.

4. Face your fears.

It may seem quite absurd that Sam Winchester, one of the toughest hunters around, is afraid of clowns. But he is and chose to face that fear to get the job done. In life, we will have to do the same so that our fears don’t hold us back or cripple us.

5. It’s okay to let people in.

Dean Winchester may be the king of pushing people away. And sometimes it does seem like the easiest road to take in real life. While we may think that putting up walls is better than just opening up, Dean is a prime example of how that is certainly not the case.

6. You’re going to be wrong sometimes.

The truth is, no one is perfect and we’re going to mess up and make mistakes. That’s the very nature of life. Castiel learned the hard way that we don’t always make the best choices. He took on the Leviathans in an attempt to gain power. It didn’t end well, however, and like Cas we must all forgive ourselves and learn from our mistakes.

7. Always take care of your car.

There’s very little in this world that Dean loves more than his Impala. It’s his house, his safe haven and his baby. It’s important to keep your ride in tip-top shape! While we may not drive a ’67 Impala like Dean, we can all pretend, right?

8. Complaining gets you nowhere.

When things go sideways, it’s easy to get it in your head that all there is to do is complain. But as Bobby Singer would tell the boys, complaining will help absolutely nothing. While it’s okay to let those emotions out, you have to keep going and stay positive!

9. It’s okay to ask for help.

The Winchesters have gone through hell and back (both literally and metaphorically) and it hasn’t been without help from those around them. They’ve often had trouble with reaching out and asking for that help, however. I think everyone gets this way at some point but we have to realize that life is always easier with someone to help carry the burden.

10. We all have a purpose.

Everyone is put on this earth for a reason. While we may not have been born to be hunters like Sam and Dean, we can all still leave a mark on and make a difference. The key is finding that purpose and living life to the fullest and realizing you always matter.

11. "Supernatural" will always be the greatest show ever!

Never has a show brought about more tears, laughs, or thought provoking themes as "Supernatural." With an amazing cast, it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most popular shows on television. It’s been renewed for a 12th season and will continue to be the best show ever!

So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
