Food is one of those things that everyone has in common. I don't care if you're American, Chinese, Hispanic, or Caucasian. We all love a quality meal. Where our tongues distinguish quality is where opinions aren't so similar. If you have never tried Lebanese food or Arabic food in general, then I recommend broadening your pallet and living on the edge. Here's a small list of Lebanese food that I strongly recommend trying, whether or not you manage to try it is entirely up to you. Keep in mind, this food may not be confined to foods that originated in Lebanon, however foods that also are highly popular in Lebanon.
1. Labne
Labne is a yogurt, it has been strained to remove the whey. The best i can describe it as is a slightly salted yogurt. Try it with some olives and bread...
2. Za'tar
Za'tar is a mixture of herbs. It creates this mixture that doesn't look very appetizing but I assure you it's amazing. It's commonly put on bread or labne.
3. Hummus
I think most people have tried hummus before however if you haven't before, it is a mixture of mashed beans.
4. Grape Leaves
Grapes leaves also look a bit frightening however they are amazing if made right...especially if they are home made. It is rice and meat wrapped in grape leaves. So. Good. Also healthy.
5. Kusa
Kusa is stuffed squash with tomato sauce, rice, and meat.
6. Tabouli
Tabouli is all fresh. Parsley, mint, fine ground wheat, a lot of lemon and a few other ingredients. We make it with a lot of lemon, and it is passed around the table countless times.
7. Kibbeh
Kibbeh is a good one I promise. It's ground lamb with onions and fine wheat. It's complicated, you have to stuff it. Listen, my mom makes it and it is damn good.
8.Kefta
Kefta is my favorite. It is lamb, with a mixture of ingredients like onions.
9. Cucumber Laban
This is yogurt, with cucumbers and garlic. Its simple and good. It is served cold.
10. Baba Ganoush
Baba Ganoush is an eggplant based dip. It is served with soft pita bread.
11. Shawarma
Shawarmas are awesome. It's meat, onions, tomato, lettuce, and a crap ton of garlic. If you have not seen The Avengers please watch this link. Shawarmas even made it to the world of marvel.
