Roaming Hunger

Food trucks are no longer the sketchy, greasy environments that serve food from questionable sources; it is now an art. They are now known for their unique takes on classic meals, emphasizing the gourmet and high quality ingredients of the foods. Their mobile nature allows them to travel all over the city and expose people to their delicious meals and treats. There are currently hundreds of food trucks stationed around Los Angeles alone.

Here are the top 11 food trucks that you must track down as soon as possible. These trucks will not let you down: they will take you on a new culinary adventure that will leave you searching for more.

1. MeSoHungry

The MeSoHungry truck specializes in gourmet burgers and sliders that will make anyone’s mouth water. Fans rave about signature burgers such as “The Duke” which includes sweet chili greens, bacon, onion rings and BBQ sauce with a special cheese bun, and the “Cali Sliders” that have smoked apple-wood bacon, balsamic sautéed onions, and a special Gorgonzola cheese sauce.

2. The Lobos Truck

Known for their comfort food with a conscience, The Lobos Truck emphasizes the importance of food that is sustainable, organic, local and free range. The truck has everything from burgers, salads, sides, mac n’ cheese and savory appetizers. Be sure to check out the Baby Back Ribs and the “Spicy Mac” – mac n’ cheese with their spicy Diablo sauce.

3. Wise Barbeque Truck – Texas BBQ

This truck’s authentic Texas-style smokehouse meats are something to boast about. Slow roasted and tender, you cannot go wrong if you order the Beef Brisket, Tri-tip, Spare Ribs or Pulled Pork. They also host a variety of traditional BBQ appetizers such as Cole Slaw, Potato Salad and Cowboy Beans.

4. Chunk-N-Chip

With freshly baked cookies and house-made ice cream, Chunk-N-Chip has the perfect recipe for delicious ice cream sandwiches. Flavors such as “Blu-Laventine”, which has a snicker doodle cookie with blueberry lavender ice cream, and “Chunky Mud”, which uses a chocolate chip cookie and rocky road ice cream, are to die for.

5. Waffles de Liege

Waffles de Liege creates heavenly Belgian waffles and tops it with ice cream and fruit. Variations such as the “Turtle Waffle” that has chocolate, caramel, pecans and whipped cream, or the “Nutella Classic” with bananas, Nutella, almonds and whipped cream are popular at this truck. This decadent treat is a definite must-try.

6. The Greasy Wiener

The Greasy Wiener is more than just a typical hot dog stand; you cannot go wrong with their handmade, high quality hot dogs. Their Jersey style dogs, sausages and bratwursts are a step above the rest. Try the “Hippie Veggie Dog”, the bacon-wrapped “LA Street Dog”, or “The Situation”, a chicken Cajun sausage.

7. The Grilled Cheese Truck

These are not your typical, basic grilled cheese sandwiches; they are deluxe, gourmet culinary creations. Staples of the menu include the “French Onion Soup Melt” with Gruyere cheese, onion soup compote and broth served on a Parmesan crust, and the “Cheesy Mac”, with macaroni and cheese incorporated into the sandwich.

8. Slammin’ Sliders

Taking mini sliders to the extreme, Slammin’ Sliders offers a variety of mouth-watering dishes sure to satisfy all. Try their “Kobe Beef Sliders”, “Pulled Pork Sliders”, or their “Lobster Sliders” which is made with pink pepper, sweet lemon chili sauce, fresh lobster and lettuce. These sliders do not disappoint.

9. Nitropod

Taking ice cream making to a whole new level, Nitropod uses liquid nitrogen to instantly make and freeze the ice cream right before your eyes. They have unique flavors such as “French Toast Wild Strawberry” and “Cinnamon Bun” as well as the classics.

10. Amazebowls

Amazebowls offers freshly blended Acai bowls garnished with a variety of healthy and delicious toppings. Each bowl is blended with hemp milk, agave, pineapple and banana but there are three main variations to choose from: “Dragon Bowl Z” (with dragon fruit and strawberry), “Amazebowl” (with Acai and blueberry), and “Fresh Prince of Bowl Air” (with Acai, blueberry, and mint leaves).
