11 Things To Do In La Crosse Over Welcome Weekend

Whether you're new to La Crosse or a returning student, there are so many things the city has to offer! While it may seem like there are too many things to do in such little time, worry no more; Welcome Weekend is here!

For the newbies in LAX, Welcome Weekend is when you move into the dorms or into your off-campus house, but still have a few days until the reality of classes begin. What better time to cross some things off your bucket list in La Crosse than Welcome Weekend? Here are some of my favorite things to do in La Crosse, which you're sure to love too!

1. Hike the bluffs.

This is such a given if you're going to be calling La Crosse your home away from home because the city is known for its bluffs. Choose Hixon Forest for a moderate hike or Rim of The City for some great views of downtown at night.

2. Treat yourself to ice cream at The Pearl.

The Pearl is the best place to get ice cream, malts, or even candy. Its location in the heart of downtown is super charming as well!

3. Take a walk through Riverside Park.

Riverside Park is the perfect place to be on a beautiful day. You can walk alongside the Mississippi River and take in the sights that the park has to offer, including gorgeous flowers and a huge fountain.

4. Relax at Pettibone Beach.

Being in La Crosse over Welcome Weekend means being in La Crosse over Labor Day, which is the perfect chance to hit the beach ! Bring a group of friends and lay out in the sand or take a dip in the Mississippi.

5. Eat at one of the *amazing* restaurants downtown.

Even if you're not 21 yet, downtown offers so many great places to eat. The Old Crow is one of my personal favorites, as well as Fayze's.

6. Check out some local coffee shops.

You might as well accept the fact you're going to be spending countless hours in coffee shops working on homework over the next four years, so why not get a head start and find your favorites now? My favorites are The Root Note andCool Beans.

7. Explore campus.

Campus might seem like the last place you want to be before school starts, but there's actually so much to do right there! Especially during Welcome Weekend, events are going on almost every day throughout campus. Check out the Union and all it has to offer. A plus? These events usually have free food too!

8. Visit Grandad Bluff Park.

If you're not in the mood for a strenuous hike, no worries! Grandad Bluff allows you to drive up to the top and park, then walk down to one of the many lookout spots.

9. See the World's Largest Six Pack.

Yes, you read that right. The World's Largest Six Pack is located right outside of downtown La Crosse. This definitely may tell you what kind of a college town you'll be living in.

10. Go thrifting.

Hit up the local thrift stores and get some decorations for your room on a budget. My friends and I have found super cute (and cheap) wine glasses, picture frames, and a lot more here.

11. Attend a football game.

Not only is it a fun way to hang out with your friends and meet new people, but the football stadium has an amazing view worth seeing.

With all of these fun options, what will you do this Welcome Weekend?
