11 Items On My Winter Break Bucket List

Now that finals are over, it is finally time to relax.

I asked a few of my friends what they want to do over winter break, which I then compiled into a small list of things to do so if you ever get bored during the break, you now have some ideas! The main thing to do during break is relax. Finals are insanely stressful and draining, so use this time to regenerate and de-stress.

1. Catch up on sleep.

A must during the break! During finals week you probably only got a couple hours each night - I know I did. Give your body a break from moving around and constantly thinking and studying, you deserve it.

2. See hometown friends.

You spent at least four months away from your friends that you used to see almost every day. Use this time to catch up with your friends from home, making more memories to reflect on during the Spring semester.

3. Wrap presents.

I find wrapping presents a very chill activity. Put on a TV show and wrap the gifts that you have purchased for friends and family members. Find cute wrapping paper and bows to make each present unique.

4. Play in the snow.

Since I live in Florida now I will sadly not be partaking in this activity, but for any of you Northerners who get snow, go out and enjoy the white powder that blankets the grass. Whether you're building a snowman or sledding down hills, a day spent in the snow is always fun.

5. Make a gingerbread house.

A classic! This could be a great centerpiece for a holiday dinner or a nice way to decorate your home.

6. Bake cookies.

I find this a fun activity because they taste delicious and it is a simple process. We all have our favorite cookie recipes, but I highly recommend trying out baking something from Sallys Baking Addiction. When I bake cookies or any baked good during the holidays I always turn on a baking show. My two favorites are the Holiday Baking Championship on Food Network or The Great British Baking Show on PB.

7. Make homemade hot chocolate.

Yes, stores sell the packets or the tubs of hot chocolate mix but I think homemade hot chocolate is so much cozier. It is also a great way to test out different flavors of hot chocolate.

8. Watch the College Football bowl games!

This is a must in my family. We will be hovering around the television during the Temple vs FIU game on December 21, Penn State vs Washington game on December 30, South Carolina vs Michigan game and of course the UCF vs Auburn game both on January 1.

9. Go to NYC on NYE.

I hope once in my life I will be in New York City watching the ball drop. This should be on everyone's bucket list, it would be a great way to end one year and start the next.

10. Get in shape.

During finals, I slacked on going to the gym because I was drowning in flash cards instead. Over break, I plan on going to the gym as much as I possibly can, no excuses.

11. See family.

This is one of the most important parts of my break. I miss my family a lot and I can't wait to see as many of my family members as I can this break.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
