11 Hidden Talents of All Greek Women

Society spends a lot of time making fun of sorority girls. They tell us we can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. That’s not true, though, and we deserve some recognition for what we can do. Sororities are filled with plenty of talented women: academically, athletically, musically, artistically, etc. Here are some small talents that all Greek women share, though.

1. We can dance.

No matter if you were a high school cheerleader or proud couch potato, you will find your moves when Greek Sing beckons you.

2. We can find money anywhere.

With dues, fees and the cost of cute Etsy products with our letters on them, our wallets take several hits throughout the year. We always find a way to make it work, though. Whether it’s from help from Mom and Dad, a few extra hours at work, or some loose change from under the couch cushions, we will get the money. We will find it.

3. We can put our letters into anything.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every chapter’s letters fit into the phrase “Darling it’s better wearing our letters, take it from me”. Clever quotes, movie references, products, you name it. We will do it. We wear and share our letters proudly.

4. We've mastered photography.

We care about how we present ourselves on social media. We also care about likes. So, we’ve basically perfected the art of the perfect selfie and cute picture taking. We know lighting. We know filters. We know angles. We got this.

5. We clean up nicely.

Rags to riches? Please, more like sweatpants to bodycon. By day, we’re leggings-wearing, messy bun-rocking girls, but by night, our infallibly perfect curls and seamless contouring makes us enviable. Never doubt the power of a woman (or Sephora).

6. We know everything about everyone.

I don’t know how we do it. With chapters upwards of a hundred members, it may seem hard to learn everyone’s name and story, but we do it. We’re sisters, after all.

7. We put Michelangelo to shame.

Thank God for Pinterest. One skill that sororities pull out of you is crafting, crafting, crafting! Even if you don’t feel artistic when you rush, your inner artist emerges real fast.

8. We don't lose our voice.

Between cheering on sisters at events and talking non-stop through recruitment, it’s amazing how we even have the ability to speak anymore. First year in the sorority: losing your voice every week; every other year: magical ability to keep on talking through anything.

9. We find strength.

This has many meanings. Physically, during Greek Olympics or other Greek sports events, we channel muscle strength that we didn’t even know we had. Sisters constantly surprise each other with their mental and emotional strength, too.

10. We can smile even after wearing heels for hours.

I’m pretty proud of this one. Our feet can be bleeding, blistering, aching, but we can smile through it. Will we complain about it later? Most definitely. But, we will look happy while we are standing there.

11. We love unconditionally.

No matter what, Greek women have the ability to love each other no matter what. So a sister made a remark about you behind your back? You’ll still be there for you when she calls you crying about her boyfriend later. Because sisters are there for each other. Sisters forgive each other. Sisters love each other. No matter what.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
