If you have browsed through back-to-school flyers, you will see that they make college dorm rooms as good as model homes. They can turn s shoe box of a room to a gorgeous living space. But in reality you don't need to worry coordinating your towels to your bedding. These are clever hacks that will help you organize all of your school essentials.

1. Folding T-Shirts

There many ways to fold your clothes but there is a way to fold your shirts so you can see all your options.

2. Class Bins

This is based on your own preference. If you you to carry more to class that a notebook, dividing all your class materials will make things easier. Let's be honest, you don't want to become known as the person who forgets your stuff all time.

3. Cord Labels

With cords for your computer, iPad, mini fridge and lights, it can quickly become very confusing as to where each cord goes. Also all of those cords could get tangled. I have been there before, I have way too many things that are plug in and I always forget which cord is what. There are many ways to label your cords. You can color coordinate them with tape, you can label them with washi tape or even take old bread ties and label them with those.

4. Make a Cord Box

If you don't want to label your cords, you can also create a cord box by using an old show box. I have seen this idea on Pinterest before. It looks very easy to make and it also keeps all your cords in one place.

5. Paper Clip Cord Holder

Another cord hack is using paper clips to hold your cords from falling. You have probably bought paper clips before. The paper clips that I'm referring to are "alligator clips" that is what I have called them. You can clip these on to the edge of your desk and put cords through the top part of the clip. This prevent your cords from falling.

6. Makeup Organizing

Ladies, you may have a huge makeup case that holds your entire collections, but you don't want to have to root through it all to find your mascara in the morning. I recommend buying a make up organizer. I bought one for my room at school and it was a life saver. I kept all of my everyday makeup products in the organizer and kept whatever I didn't use in a separate makeup bag so that nothing got lost or misplaced.

7. Double Hangers

You may have seen infomercials for multi layer hangers, but who really wants to spend money on hangers when you can create your own double hangers. I never would have thought to do this. If you take a soda tab and put it around the bottom of the hook on the hanger, you can hang another hanger off of the soda tab. So if you have a lot of clothes and run out of room in your closet, here is a cheap way to fix that problem.

8. Shoe Organizer

Another closet hack is getting a show organizer that can hang in your closet. If you have one then you won't have to worry about losing your shoes. This keeps all your shoes organized and in one spot.

9. Organizing Belts and Scarves

Scarves and belts are awkward because you never know if they should go in a drawer or be hung up. The best space saving method hanging them up. You can use plastic rings, old hoops earrings or tie them around a hanger. Also you also buy scarf and belt hangers as well.

10. School Supplies Box

I have seen a lot ways to organize your desk supplies, one them being using a spice rack. But If you don't have a spice rack, you can make your own. You can take a shoe box and place toilet paper rolls inside it and decorate to your liking.

11. Create Your Own Calendar

This is probably the most important thing to help you stay organized. There a lot of options to creating your own calendar. You can make a massive to-do board calendar that will help you keep track of your assignments and when they are due. Trust me, keeping a calendar is much more effective than putting deadlines in your phone.

You can find a lot of DIY projects on Pinterest for more help with organizing your room. The majority of things that I had in my room were ideas from Pinterest. So if you are into crafting then definitely try making your own or can go out buy what you need. Staying organized is the most important thing for college. It truly will benefit you in the long run.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
