Everyone knows that long distance sucks – for relationships and friendships alike. It can be hard to stay connected to your old friends while trying to be present and involved wherever you are.

I miss my best friends from home like crazy, but there can be some good things about having to live apart for a while, even if it sucks most of the time.

1. Catching up takes like 3 hours.

When you finally get to talk or see each other, you have to sit down and tell your best friend(s) literally everything that's happened since the last time you've talked, and it's so much fun.

2. Telling them about embarrassing moments.

I probably would've told them anyway, but after you make a complete fool of yourself, it's even better to be able to laugh about it with people who are far removed from the situation.

3. It seems like you're really popular because your group message is always poppin.'

You might not get to see each other everyday, but that group message is always going.

4. You all come back from school with new stories to tell.

Living experiences together is the best, and there's nothing like rehashing good times. But you also get to tell your best friends your crazy stories from college and hear their reactions, and that's almost as good. It's so fun to hear what your friends have been up to (even if it's without you).

5. When you're feeling alone, they're just a phone call (or text) away.

I can't count how many times I've called or texted a friend with a mini life crisis, and they've always made time for me. A FaceTime or phone call can make your whole day. There's nothing like having people there for you, even if they're hundreds of miles away.

6. You get to go visit them at their school.

It's really cool to get to go see your friend's life at school. You get to see their dorm, meet their roommate and friends, tour their campus and get an idea of their day-to-day. Plus, visiting another campus is just fun for a change in routine and you get to see your best friend.

7. You can rant to them about people you know at school as much as you want.

Odds are, they'll never meet. And if they do, your best friend will be able to see exactly what you've been ranting about, and you'll have someone who understands what you deal with. There's no downside because you get to get the frustration about whoever it is off your chest without the "gossip" getting back to them.

8. You have long snap streaks.

Snapping your best friends 24/7 leaves you with snap streaks as long as you've been at school, and it's crazy to see the days change from 20 to 200.

9. You're reminded how lucky you are.

Of course, you have new friends at school, but there's nothing like being with the people you grew up with who know you at your core. Being with your people is the best.

10. Cuddle puddles.

When you all see each other again, you have to make up for all the missed hugs while you were apart.

11. When you're together again it feels like nothing has changed.

It's amazing going back home to hang out with your friends and being able to pick up right where you left off. I'll go home for a weekend, and it will feel like I never left... until I have to leave again.

So even though long distance can suck, it's even sweeter when you get to see your friends again!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
